Step 1: Your Supplies

This Angry Birds Hat is super fun to crochet! Best of all? The pattern is FREE! The hat crochets quickly and easily, making an excellent gift for the Angry Birds Fan in your house! The Angry Birds Hats are great hand-made gifts to give this holiday season and all year round for kids and adults alike. This pattern can be adapted to fit most child and adult heads. This one fits up to a 20 inch head.

Difficulty: Easy - Intermediate

Materials: Caron Yarn – White, Black, Grey, Red, and Sunshine yellow, Size H crochet hook, darning needle and Poly fill.

Hat – Black

Base Ch 3

Rnd 1: 9 SC in 1^st CH made, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 2: 2 SC in each sp around, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn. (18)

Rnd 3: *2 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 4: * 3 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn. (30)

Step 3: The Next Step

Ear cover

Count left from where you tied of on rnd 34. Sk 10 sps and connect yarn and do the following.

Row 1-4: 11 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Row 5: SC2tog, 7 SC, SC2tog, Ch 1, turn.

Row 6: 9 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Row 7: SC2tog, 5 SC, SC2tog, Ch 1 turn.

Row 8: 7 SC, tie off and hide string.

Counting left on Row 34 of hat from last made ear cover: Sk 28 sps connect yarn.

Rep ear cover rows 1-8

Go back to the hat on row 34 where you tied off and connect Grey yarn back onto hat to cont. with rnd 35.

Rnd 35 (grey): SC around to 1 sp of ear cover, *Sk 1 sp, working up cover: 6 SC, 2 SC in next sp (corner), 6 SC across top, 2 SC in next sp (corner), 6 SC down next side, Sk 1 sp, SC to 1 sps of next ear cover and rep from * around to end, Sl to 1^st Sc made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 36: Rep Rnd 35 tie of and hide string.

Braids – Grey

Cut Grey yarn into yard strips and fold in half and place onto the ends of the ear cuffs. Take these strings and braid into wanted length.

Step 4: The Next Step

Head Wick: Black

Base: CH 12, SL to 1^st CH made to form a ring, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 1: In Ch 12 Ring – 14 SC, SL to 1^st SC made, CH 1, turn.

Rnd 2-7: 14 SC, SL to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 8: *2SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, end with 2 SC, SL to 1^st SC made, CC to yellow, CH 1, turn.

Rnd 9-10: SC around, SL to 1^st Sc made, CH 1, turn.* Rnd 10 Tie off and hide string.

Beak- Sunshine

Base: Ch 26, sl to 1^st ch made to form a ring

Rnd 1-2: 26 SC, sl to 1^st sc made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd3: * 3 SC, Sc2tog, rep from * around, SL to 1^st SC made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 4: Sc around, SL to 1^st SC made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 5: *SC2tog, 3 SC, Rep from * around end with 1 sc, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 5: SC around, SL to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 7: * 2 SC, Sc2tog, Rep from * around, SL to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 8: Sc around, Sl to 1^st Sc made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd9: *SC2tog, 2 SC, Rep from * around end with SC2tog, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 10: Sc around, Sl to 1^st Sc made, tie off hide string.

Take Tail and weave the tail through rnd 10 pull tight to close hole, tie off and hide string.

Step 5: The Next Step

Under the Eyes – Grey make two.

Base: Ch 3

Rnd 1: 8 SC in 1^st Ch made, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 2: 2 SC in each sp around, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 3: *SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, SL to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 4: *4 SC, 2 SC in next sp, rep from * around, SL to 1^st SC made, tie off leave long tail.

Eyes – White

Base: Ch 3

Rnd 1: 8 SC in 1^st Ch made, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 2: 2 SC in each sp around, Sl to 1^st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 3: *2 SC in next sp, SC, Rep from * around, SL to 1^st SC made, tie off. Leave long tail.

Pupil – Black

Base: Ch 3

Row 1: 8 SC in 1^st Ch made, SL to 1^st SC made, tie off.

Eye brows – Red

Base: Ch 12

Row 1: 11 SC, tie off and leave long tail.

Step 6: Finishing Up

How to assemble face: With Darning Needle and matching yarn;

First: set the head wick on top of the head and sew down.

Second: Stuff the beak with stuffing and sew the beak onto the front center bottom of hat.

Third: Place Grey under the eyes evenly onto the head on each side of the beak. Pin into place then sew into place.

Fourth: Pin the whites of the eyes onto the upper left and right parts of the grey under the eye motifs and then sew down.

Fifth: Sew the pupils onto the eye whites slightly cross eyed.

Sixth: Sew the eyebrows slanted upward above both of the eyes.
