Step 1: Getting Started

The King Pig (aka Pig King or just The King) is the main antagonist and the leader of the pigs in the Angry Birds Game.  These Angry Birds themed hats are very popular and fun to crochet!  Make one for your kids, friends or grandparents…anyone who enjoys the game!  (This one fits up to a 20 inch head.)   You are going to love making this hat and love giving one to the Angry Birds super fan in your life.  

Difficulty: Easy to Intermediate

Materials: Caron Yarn – limelight, white, black, and sunshine yellow, Size H crochet hook, darning needle, and stuffing

Ear cover

Count left from where you tied of on rnd 34. Sk 10 sps and connect yarn and do the following.

Row 1-4: 11 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Row 5: SC2tog, 7 SC, SC2tog, Ch 1, turn.

Row 6: 9 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Row 7: SC2tog, 5 SC, SC2tog, Ch 1 turn.

Row 8: 7 SC, tie off and hide string.

Counting left on Row 34 of hat from last made ear cover: Sk 28 sps connect yarn.

Rep ear cover rows 1-8

Go back to the hat on row 34 where you tied off and connect yarn back onto hat to cont. with rnd 35.

Rnd 35: SC around to 1 sp of ear cover, *Sk 1 sp, working up cover: 6 SC, 2 SC in next sp (corner), 6 SC across top, 2 SC in next sp (corner), 6 SC down next side, Sk 1 sp, SC to 1 sps of next ear cover and rep from * around to end,  Sl to 1st Sc made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 36: Rep Rnd 35 tie of and hide string.

Braids

Cut limelight yarn into yard strips and fold in half and place onto the ends of the ear cuffs. Take these strings and braid into wanted length.

Step 6: Finishing Up

Crown: Sunshine Yellow

Base: Ch 25 SL to 1st Ch made to form ring. Ch 1, turn. (24 sts)

Rnd 1-2: 24 SC, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn. (24 sts)

Rnd 3-4: * SC, HDC, 2 DC, HDC, SC, Rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1 turn. (24 sts)

Rnd 5: *SC, HDC, 3 DC in next 2 sps, HDC, SC, rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, CH 1, turn. (40 sts)

Rnd 6: * 4 SC, HDC, DC, CH 2, DC, HDC, 2 SC, rep from * around. SL to 1st SC made, Tie off hide string. (40 sts plus 4 sets of CH 2 sps)

 

Hat 2

To Assemble Face:

1st: Sew nose holes to nose as shown.

2nd: Stuff nose with poly-fill

3rd: Sew nose down along round rnd 9 leaving bottom lip loose.

4th: Sew pupils to eye whites.

5th: Sew eyes down to hat on the sides of the nose.

6th: black centers of ear motifs and sew to one green ear motif. Do this twice. These are the font of the ears.

7th: Take front of ear motifs and 1 back motif and sew around 3 sides of and stuff with poly-fill. Do this twice.

8th: Sew the ears to the hat in shown manner.

9th: Sew crown to hat.
