Step 1: Getting Started

The Angry Birds Hats are great hand-made crocheted gifts to give this holiday season and all year round for kids and adults alike. The pattern can be adapted to fit most child and adult heads. This one fits up to a 20 inch head.

Difficulty: Easy

Materials: Caron Yarn – Soft blue, White, Black, bone, and sunshine yellow, Size h crochet hook, darning needle and poly fill.

SL = Slip Stitch

CH= Chain

SC = Single Crochet

HDC half Double Crochet

DC = Double Crochet

TR = Treble Crochet

SC2tog = Single Crochet 2 together

Instructions:

Hat – Soft blue

Base Ch 3

Rnd 1: 9 SC in 1st CH made, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 2: 2 SC in each sp around, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn. (18)

Rnd 3: *2 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 4: * 3 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn. (30)

Rnd 5: *9 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn. (33)

Rnd 6: 10 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn. (36)

Ear cover

Count left from where you tied of on rnd 34. Sk 10 sps and connect yarn and do the following.

Row 1-4: 11 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Row 5: SC2tog, 7 SC, SC2tog, Ch 1, turn.

Row 6: 9 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Row 7: SC2tog, 5 SC, SC2tog, Ch 1 turn.

Row 8: 7 SC, tie off and hide string.

*Counting left on Row 34 of hat from last made ear cover: Sk 28 sps connect yarn.

Rep ear cover rows 1-8

*Go back to the hat on row 34 where you tied off and connect yarn back onto hat to cont. with rnd 35.

Rnd 35: SC around to 1 sp of ear cover, *Sk 1 sp, working up cover: 6 SC, 2 SC in next sp (corner), 6 SC across top, 2 SC in next sp (corner), 6 SC down next side, Sk 1 sp, SC to 1 sps of next ear cover and rep from * around to end,  Sl to 1st Sc made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 36: Rep Rnd 35 tie of and hide string.

Step 3: The Next Step

Braids – Soft blue.

Cut white yarn into yard strips and fold in half and place onto the ends of the ear cuffs. Take these strings and braid into wanted length.

Head Feathers – Soft Blue

Base:  Ch 11

Row 1: SC, 2 HDC, 4 DC, 2 HDC, SC, CH 1, turn.

Row 2: SC, 2 HDC, 4 Dc, 2 HDC, 3 SC (corner turn), 2 HDC, 4 DC, 2 HDC, SC, Ch 11, Working down CH 11 sps, SC, HDC, 2 DC, 2 TR, 2 DC, HDC, SC, Tie off

Under the Eyes – Bone make two.

Base: Ch13,

Row 1: 12 SC, Ch 1 turn.

Row 2: SC2tog, 8 SC, Sc2tog, ch 1, turn

Row 3: SC2 tog, 6 SC, SC2tog, Ch 1 turn.

Row 4: SC2tog, 4 SC, SC2tog, SL to 1st Sc made,(No Ch1 turn).

Row 5: SLO around the entire motif, Sl to 1st made leave long tie for sewing onto the hat.

Eyes – White

Base: Ch 3

Rnd 1: 8 SC in 1st Ch made, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 2: 2 SC in each sp around, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 3: *2 SC in next sp, SC, Rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 4: *2 SC in next sp, 3 SC, rep from * around, tie off hide string.

Pupil – Black

Base: Ch 3

Row 1: 12 HDC in 1st Ch made, SL to 1st DC made, tie off.

Step 4: Finishing Up

Beak- Sunshine

Base: Ch 26, sl to 1st ch made to form a ring

Rnd 1-2: 26 SC, sl to 1st sc made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd3: * 3 SC, Sc2tog, rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 4: Sc around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 5: *SC2tog, 3 SC, Rep from * around end with 1 sc, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 5: SC around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 7: * 2 SC, Sc2tog, Rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 8-9: Sc around, Sl to 1st Sc made, Ch 1 turn.

*Sew the head feathers on top of the hat.

To Assemble Face

First, place the under eyes Motifs and sew them down slanted.

Second, Place the eyes over the “under Eye Motif” and pupils on top of the eyes.

Third, place the nose and before you sew on all the way fill with stuffing.
