Step 1: Getting Started

Has the Angry Birds game taken over your house?  If so, try crocheting this simple and easy pattern for a child's hat.  This hat will make a great hand-made gift for all the Angry Birds fans in your family, or as a crocheted gift for friends and coworkers.  This particular pattern measures for a 3-4T child, but could easily be adapted to fit a teen or adult by adding stitches.  If you have questions please don't hesitate to contact us.  Enjoy the pattern!

Difficulty: Easy

Materials: Caron yarn colors: Sunshine yellow, Autumn Red, black and white, Size H crochet Hook, darning needle.  And don’t forget the Stuffing for the nose!

SL = Slip Stitch

CH= Chain

SC = Single Crochet

HDC half Double Crochet

DC = Double Crochet

TR = Treble Crochet

SC2tog = Single Crochet 2 together

Instructions:

Hat - Autumn Red

Base: Ch 4, Sl to 1st CH made to form a ring, ch1 turn.

Rnd 1: 10 SC in CH 4 ring, SL to 1st SC made, CH 1, turn.

Rnd 2: * SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, CH 1, turn.

Rmd 3: * 2 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 4: * 3 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 5: * 4 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around Sl to 1st SC made CH 1, turn.

Rnd 6: * 5 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around Sl to 1st SC made CH 1, turn.

Rnd 7: * 6 SC, 2 SC in next sp, Rep from * around Sl to 1st SC made CH 1, turn.

Rnd 15- 30: SC around, Ch 1, turn. Except for Rnd 30 tie off.

Step 3: The Next Step

Ear Cover:

Row 1: Counting from where you left off in Rnd 30 of hat, SK 11 sps, 12 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Row 2-3: 12 SC, Ch 1 turn.

Row 4: SC2tog, 8 SC, SC2tog, CH 1, turn.

Row 5: 10 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Row 6: SC2tog, 6 SC, SC2tog, CH 1, turn.

Row 7: 8 SC, Tie off.

Counting around hat on row 30. Sk 28 Sps

Rep rows 1-7 for the other ear cover.

*Starting and continuing new rnd around the hat as wells as the ear covers.

CC to white:

Row 31: SC to ear cover, working up ear cover: *6 SC, 2 SC in next sp, 6 Sc, 2 SC in next sp, 6 SC, SC around to next ear cover and repeat From* around next ear cover and SC around to end, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Row 32: *SC to 1 sp before ear cover, Sk 2 sps, 5 SC, 2 SC in next sp, 8 SC, 2 SC in next sp, 5 SC, Sk 2 sps, SC around to next ear cover and repeat from * around ear cover, SC around to end, SL to 1st SC made, Tie off.

Braids-White.

Cut white yarn into yard strips and fold in half and place onto the ends of the ear cuffs. Take these strings and braid onto wanted length.

Eyes – White

Base: Ch 3

Rnd 1: 8 SC in 1st Ch made, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 2: 2 SC in each sp around, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 3: *2 SC in next sp, SC, Rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 4: *2 SC in next sp, 3 SC, rep from * around, tie off.

Step 4: Finishing Up

Pupil – Black

Base: Ch 3

Row 1: 12 HD  in 1st Ch made, SL to 1st DC made, tie off.

Eyebrows

Base: CH 26

Row 1: SC, HDC, 9 DC, Dc3tog, 9 DC, HDC, SC, tie off.

Head Feathers – Autumn Red

Base:  Ch 11

Row 1: SC, 2 HDC, 4 DC, 2 HDC, SC, CH 1, turn.

Row 2: SC, 2 HDC, 4 Dc, 2 HDC, 3 SC (corner turn), 2 HDC, 4 DC, 2 HDC, SC, Ch 11, Working down CH 11 sps, SC, HDC, 2 DC, 2 TR, 2 DC, HDC, SC, Tie off

Beak- Sunshine

Base: Ch 24

Row 1: 24 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Rnd2: * 3 SC, Sc2tog, rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 3: Sc around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 4: *SC2tog, 3 SC, Rep from * around, Sl to 1st SC made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 5: SC around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1,turn.

Rnd 6: * 2 SC, Sc2tog, Rep from * around, SL to 1st SC made, Ch 1,turn.

Rnd 7: Sc around, Sl to 1st Sc made, Ch 1 turn.

Rnd 9: Sc around, Sl to 1st Sc made, leave long tail to use for sewing onto the hat.

Putting the hat together:

After the main hat is made and the braids are put on, do the following:

With Darning needle and matching yarn:

First sew eyes into place.

Second sew on the pupils.

Third sew the eyebrows over the tops of the eyes.

Fourth the beak is to be sewn onto the face with a slight overlay of the eyes.

Lastly Crochet the head feathers and sewn onto the top of his head.
