Change up the colors in this free knitting pattern to create a gift for any occasion or season - showers, birthdays or other holidays!

Skill level: Intermediate

150 yards of worsted weight cotton yarn  in red
50 yards of worsted weight cotton yarn in white
Size 8 needles
Yarn needle

Gauge: 4 sts to the inch

*Knitting Tips and Tricks: This project is knit using the intarsha technique, when changing colors make sure you make a nice closed twist of the yarns to insure there won’t be a hole.

Pattern Instructions


With red cast on 22 sts, with white cast on 6, with another ball of red yarn cast on 22. You will have 50 total stitches.
Row 1: (right side) With red K 22, twist yarn, with white, K 6, twist yarn, with red K 22.
Row 2- 5: Repeat row 1.  
•When twisting yarn on the wrong side make sure the twist is on the same side as the right side so that the twist won’t show on the front of the towel.
Row 6: With red, K 3, P 19, twist yarn, with white P 6, twist yarn, with red P 19, K 3.
Row 7: With red K 22, twist yarn, with white K 6, twist yarn, with read K 22.
Rows 8-32:  repeat rows 6 and 7, ending with row 6.
Row33: Cut both red yarns, with white, K 50.
Row 34:  K 3, P 44, K 3.
Row 35-40: Repeat rows 33 and 34, ending with row 34.
Row 41-66:  repeat rows 6 and 7, or until piece measures 10 inches.


Row 65: With just red K 50. Cut white and the second ball of red. You will be working with just red.
Row 66-68: K50.
Row 69: (K 2, K2tog,) repeat to last 2 sts, K 2.(38)
Row 70: K 38.
Row 71: (K 1, K2tog,) repeat to last 3 sts, K 2. (26)
Row 72: K 26.
Row 73: K2tog across. (13)
Row 74- 98: K in each st across.
Row 99:  K 6, YO,  K2tog, K 5.
Row 100 – 104: K in each st across.
Cast Off.


With white cast on 12.
Row 1 – 30: K in each st across.
Cast off.

Putting it all together:
Sew bow to center of cross on towel.
Weave in all ends and sew button into place.
