
Cozy Slipper Socks
Nothing says "I love you" like cozy socks to pad around the dorms in. Select a luscious bulky yarn to knit up this intermediate level pattern and you'll love the results - a bulky soft pair of slipper socks for your chilly feet.
Choose a holiday color yarn or variegated yarn for more variety and for special holiday occasions, like sitting around the tree Christmas morning, or snuggling up in on Thanksgiving evening after a yummy turkey dinner.
Size: Youth and adult sizes
Skill level: Intermediate
Materials: 200 yards of Bulky Chenille yarn sizes for both (the sample was knit using Lion Brand Chenille in Sapphire)
Size 9 double points
Yarn needle
Gauge: 2 stitches to the inch
Special notes: The pattern is written for youth size, changes for adult are in parthese.
Pattern: (Make two)
Cast on 20 (24) stitches loosely and divide evenly over 4 needles, being careful not to twist.
Round 1: K 2, P 2, repeat around.
Repeat round 1 until your piece measures 2 (4) inches.
Round 2: K in each stitch around.
Repeat until piece measures 5 (7) inches.
Heel flap
Row 1: K 10 (12), turn and leaving the last 10 on needles to hold for later
Row 2: Sl 1, P in each st across, turn.
Row 3: Sl 1, K in each st across.
Repeat row 2 and 3 three more times or 2 inches.
Gusset
For youth size start at row 3.
Row 1: Sl 1, K 5, K2tog, K1, turn
Row 2: Sl 1, P 1, P2tog, P1, turn.
Row 3: Sl 1, K 2, Ktog, K 1, turn.
Row 4: Sl 1, P 3, P2tog, P1, turn. ( for youth stop here)
Row 5: Sl 1, K 4, K2tog, turn.
Row 6: Sl 1, K 5, K2tog, turn.
Turning the heel
Round 1: K 6 sts on first needle, pick up 5 sts on left side of heel with same needle, K across needle 2 and 3, with needle 4 pick up 5 sts along right side of, K the first 3 sts on needle 1. You will have 8 sts, on needle 1, 5 on needles 2 and 3, and 8 on needle 4.
Round 2: K in each sts around.
Round 3: On needle 1 K in each sts to last 2, K2tog, on needle 2 and 3 K across, on needle 4 SSK, K to end.
Repeat round 2 and 3 until you have 20 (24) sts left.
Foot
Round 1: K in each st around.
Repeat round 1 until the foot is 7 (9) inches or two inches from desired length.
Toe
Round 1: (K2tog, K to end of needle) repeat around.
Round 2: K in each st around.
Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until you have one st on each needle.
Finishing it all up:
Cut yarn leaving a ten inch tail. Weave through remaining stitches and secure. Weave in all ends.
