Dad's Mitts

Knit a pair of mitts for dad, brother, uncle, grandfather or any special guy in your life! This is a great knitting project for the advanced beginner and makes an awesome stocking stuffer gift too!

But you don't have to wait until Christmas to give the gift of warm hands - make a pair today. Choose a Dk weight yarn in just about any color or mix and match colors for a favorite sports team theme or other color themes!

Skill level: Advanced beginner

200 yards of Dk weight yarn.
Size 3 dps needles
Yarn needle
Scrap yarn in a different color or a stitch holder.

Gauge:  5 stitches to the inch
Cuff: (Make two)

Cast on 40 stitches
*Knitting tip- When you are casting on for a cuff either a mitt or socks, cast on over two needles. This works great to have even yet loose stitches that will have a stretch to them without looking to large or misshaped.
Divide the stitches on 4 needles with 10 stitches on each needle. Join in the round being careful not to twist.
Round 1-32:  K2 P 2 around. Work this round until you have about 3 ½ inches which should be 20 rounds.
Round 33-37: Knit

Gusset shaping:
Round 38: Kfb  in the first 2 stitches, K to the end of the round. (42)
Rounds  -39-40: Knit around
Round 41: Kfb, K2,Kfb, knit to the end of the round. (44)
Rounds  42-44: Knit around.
Round 45: Kfb K 4, Kfb, knit to the end of the round. (46)
Rounds 46 -48: Knit around.
Round 49: Kfb, K 6, Kfb, knit to the end of the round. (48)
Round 50: Knit around.
Round 51: Place the first 10 stitichs on to waist yarn or stitch holder. Cast on 4 stitches and Join and knit around.
Rounds 52 -56: Knit to the end of the round at the end of round 56, K2tog 2 times.
Rounds 57-58: K 2, P 2 around.
Cast off loosely.

Divide the 10 stitches on two 2 needles. With the third needle pick up and knit 6 stitches over the ends of the 2 stitch cast on .
Round 1: K each stitch around.
Round 2 &3: K 2 , P 2 around.
Cast off loosely.

Weave in all ends and repeat for other mitt.
