Do you need a fun and light knitting project for summer? Or maybe you'd like to make a sweet blanket for a baby shower, friend, or to wrap up your own little bundle of joy? Melanie's new quick and cozy baby afghan is the perfect way to start your summer knitting!

This free knitting pattern is a simple pretty blanket for both the beginning and advanced knitter alike. It's an easy project that produces pretty results - your baby will love being wrapped in such a snugly blanket.

Skill level: Beginner

Materials: 500 yards of super bulky yarn. The sample was knit with Bernat baby Blanket in the color of Peachy        Size 13 needle
Yarn needle

Gauge: Not given

Stitches used:
K = knit
P = purl

Cast On  63 stitches.
Beginner border
Row 1: K in each stitch across.
Row 2: K 1, P1, across.
Row 3-22: repeat rows 1 and 2 ten more times.
Row 23:  K 13, place marker, K 37, place marker, K last 13.
Row 24: (K1, P1) repeat to maker, slip marker, P to next marker, (K1, P1) repeat to end.
Repeat rows 23 and 24 until afghan measures 32 inches from the cast one edge, ending with row 24.
Ending border
Row 1: K in each stitch across.
Row 2: K1, P1, across.
Row 3-22:  repeat rows 1 and 2.
Cast off loosely and weave in all ends.

She has taught classes through various yarn stores, Community Education Programs, fiber fairs; as well as in 4-H programs around Idaho.
