It’s time to get Patriotic with this super easy repurposed flag- using fabric scraps you may already have on hand! Plus there is a no sew alternative to this project- major bonus for most of us busy women out there!

Skill Level: Easy

Fabric Scraps- red stripes and blue stars
Sewing Machine
Iron on Adhesive

Start by cutting your fabric to the size you want. My flag measurements are 31”x 21”. (I made mine big enough so I could display or use for a pillow case for my Americana room but you can make it any size that works for you and your space.)  Always make sure your fabric has been washed before you cut and sew it and if you want to create two sides to the fabric for a pillow you will need to cut two Rectangles rather than one.

Once you have laid your fabric out for your rectangle and cut - cut a smaller square for the stars and set aside.  I just kind of eyeballed this part but you can lay it out and measure it - just be sure your square is even and proportional before you cut.

Now it is time to sew your sides together - or if you are opting for the no sew option, it is time to get your adhesive out. Lay your fabric inside out so that when you sew the edges together and turn right side out the finished side will be showing. If you are sewing, sew all 3 edges with a single ¼ inch stitch and turn right side out when finished.

For the finishing touches you will first iron on your star patch to the front left corner of your flag - or sew in place if you prefer. Once your stars are in place feel free to add buttons or anything to dress up your patriotic flag and it is ready to hang or cover any pillow!
