"...It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..." especially when you hang pretty ruffled Christmas stockings on your mantle or around your home. This sweet stocking is created with our free knitting pattern, ideal for most intermediate or advanced knitters.

You'll enjoy knitting the stocking, hanging it and filling with goodies. Or fill one with goodies for an office gift exchange or to share with a special friend!

*The sample was made using Red Heart Soft in Wine and Yarn Bee Chrysalis in Psyche 118 (white)

Skill level: Intermediate

Materials:     
200 yards of worsted weight yarn         
25 yards of ruffle yarn        
16 inch size 8 needles        
Stitch marker        
Yarn needle        
Scrap yarn for provisional cast on
Size H hook

Gauge: 4 ½ sts to one inch

Stitches used:
K – knit
P – purl
K2tog- knit 2 sts together
P2tog- purl 2 sts together
K3tog- knit 3 sts together
P3tog- purl 3 sts together
SSK- slip, slip , knit the 2 slipped sts together


Stocking Pattern:
 
Cuff
Using a provisional cast on 60 stitches.
Round 1: Pick up 60 sts and join into round being careful not to twist, and place marker.
Round 2-48 : K in each stitch around slipping marker as you come to it. Your stocking should measure about  10  inches.

Heel (part 1)
Drop the red yarn and with scrap yarn knit the next 30 sts, drop scrap yarn and pick up the red at the beginning of the round and knit around.

Foot
Round 1- 30: K in each stitch around slipping the marker as you come to it.

Toe
Round 1: K1, SSK, K 25, K2tog,K2, SSK, K 25, K2rog, K1.
Round 2: K in each stitch around.
Round 3: K 1, SSK, K 23,K2tog, K2, SSK, K23,K2tog, K1
Round 4 and all even rounds from here out: K in each stitch around.
Round 5: K 1, SSK, K21,K2tog,K2,SSK, K21,K2tog,K1.
Round 7: K1,SSK, K19, K2tog, K2, SSK, K 19, K2tog, K1.
Continue in this manner until you have a total of 28 sts left, ending on an even round.
Cut yarn and Kitchener Stitch to cast off.

Heel ( part 2)
With DPNs, carefully remove the waist yarn at the beginning of heel part 1, place live stitches onto dpn. You will have 30 stitches on one needle and 30 on the other.  Join yarn and complete heel  as for toe.

Cuff Ruffle
Remove the provisional cast on and place stitches onto 16 inch needle. Using ruffle yarn knit 2 rounds and cast off.

Hanger
With crochet hook make a chain of 10 sts, sew to just inside cuff at the beginning of round 1.
