Scrappy Heart Bag
Step 1: Getting Started
Skill level: Beginner
Materials:
200 yards of worsted weight wool (you can use one color or bits of left over yarn, just make sure it is feltable)
Size 9 needle
Yarn needle
Gauge: Gauge is not important for this project.
Stitches Used
K = knit
P = purl
Inc = knit in the front and the back
K2tog = knit 2 together

Step 2: Pattern Instructions
Instructions:
Heart (make 2)
Cast on 8 Sts with color of choice.
• Change colors when you think its best. Try not to make it a pattern.
Row 1: inc, knit to last sts, inc.
Row 2: knit across.
Rows 3 – 22: Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you have 30 sts on the needle, ending with row 2.
Row 23: knit to the last st, inc.
Row 24: knit across
Rows 25 -30: Repeat these two rows 3 more times, you will now have 34 sts on the needle.
Row 31: K2tog, knit to last sts, inc.
Row 32: knit across.
Rows 33-40: repeat rows 31 and 32.
Row 41: Inc, knit to last 2 sts, K2tog.
Row 42: knit across.
Rows 43-50: repeat rows 41and 42.
Row 51: Knit to last 2 sts, k2tog.
Row 52: knit across.
Row 53 -58: repeat rows 51 and 52 you will have 30 sts.
Row 59: K2tog, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog.
Row 60: knit across
Repeat rows 59 and 60 until there are 8 sts remaining. Cast off.
Putting it all together...
Place two hearts with wrong sides together. Sew up both sides of heart, leaving the top open.
Using 6 strands of yarn 2 yards long. Attach one end to the bag and braid the strands. Once this is done...
Felting Instructions:
Be sure to secure all yarn ends. Place tote into a pillow case or laundry bag. Place into washer and add a few towels or jeans. Add a small amount of laundry soap. Turn washer to small load and hot wash, cold rinse. Agitate for 10 minutes. Check to see if your bag is felted to your liking, if not repeat until desired felting is complete. Return bag to washer and let run through the cycle. Remove tote and block with plastic bags inside to help hold its shape.
