20 Minute Toddler Skirt
Skill Level: Easy
Materials:
Shirt
Scissors
Sewing Machine
Instructions:
To start this project, iron and lay your skirt flat to get your measurements. I found that this pattern works best with this type of shirt that has the elastic at the top to use as a waistband. I loved the pattern on this sun shirt that my baby girl had grown out of and noticed that the top stretched to the width of her other skirts so that is originally where the skirt idea came from and what you will want to keep in mind when you are picking out a shirt to repurpose.
Once you have made your measurements and decided how much to take in on the sides, you will want to turn the shirt inside out and pin in place. On this shirt I found I only needed to taper and sew the arm holes so I tapered and pinned the shirt accordingly to make a fuller skirt.
With your pins in place you are ready for sewing. Using a single stitch- this part should come together pretty quickly depending on your sewing level. When you are done sewing turn your skirt right side out and iron your seam for a finished look. I added some lace trim to the bottom using a single stitch all the way around but this part is not necessary for your project. I just couldn't resist some cute lace trim but that part is definitely optional. Enjoy!
