Contributed by: Naomi Lynsted
What you need: Fabric, plaid flannel, color of choice, 1/4 yd.;
insoles*, two pair, appropriate
size; Velcro* fasteners, round, 3/4-inch, four sets; Glue stick; Glue*, white craft.
Miscellaneous items: marker or chalk; scissors; tissue
paper; straight pins; sewing needle; matching thread; pinch-type clothespins;
iron; sewing machine
What to do:
1. Place one pair of insoles on
wrong side of fabric, reverse one insole and match placement of plaids. Use a
marker or chalk to draw outline of each insole. Also mark an outline 5/s-inch
outside of insoles and cut out along this line.
2. Apply glue stick to top side of each insole. Place
insoles on wrong side of fabric outlines. Clip fabric around curves and beginning on one side, turn and
glue fabric edges to bottoms of insoles. Use clothespins to hold until glue
dries.
3. To make the straps, measure the widest part of insole. Multiply this measurement by three to obtain length of
strap. Cut a paper pattern this length by 5 1/4 inches wide. Cut two straps from plaid fabric, reversing one to match plaids.
4. Fold strap piece in half lengthwise, right sides
together. Sew a 1/2-inch seam on long side and one end. Trim corners, turn to
right side, and press. Thin under open end 1/2 inch and press.
Topstitch a ¼ inch seam around entire strap. Repeat to make
second strap.
5. Glue straps to wrong side of fabric covered insoles at
widest part, extending one end 3 inches from outside edge.
6. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to adhere two
Velcro’ fasteners on each slipper strap, checking foot to fit. Slip-stitch in
place.
7. Glue second pair of insoles over straps on bottom
of slippers; hold with clothes pins until dry.
