Instructions:
Recipe for the Scented Faux Petal Cake.
First of all you can use any color of flower you want to go with your color scheme. I use the white petals the most because they look more realistic. Supplies needed: 2 Styrofoam disc (round 6" is what I use) found at most Craft stores, or Wal-Mart .
Silk flowers, faux fruit. Paint, (I use Apple Barrel craft paint), (color depends on what color you want your cake) Hot glue gun, scissors, sponge paintbrush.
First hot glue the 2 disc together, completely paint the disc including top and bottom. Then let dry completely. Next cut a slice of Styrofoam out, just like you would a regular cake.
Paint inside the cut out section of the Styrofoam cake the same color as the outside. Paint a different color stripe on the cut out section to represent a look of filling. Save the part you sliced out too. Next take the flowers and cut off the petals from the stem.
Take your petals and hot glue all over the painted Styrofoam discs. Fill in all space with flowers except the part you cut out. On the single slice of Styrofoam that you cut out that you saved earlier cover this also with flower petals and add a colored stripe in the center of the slice to represent filling. Next add the faux fruit, (I used strawberries that I purchased at Hobby Lobby) to the top of cake and a faux fruit to the single slice too.
I buy concentrated vanilla scent (use any scent you like), use a cotton ball and dab all over the cake petals. The scent will last for a while. When the scent becomes faint just add a little more. (I purchased this scent at Wal-Mart in Craft Section).
I display my cakes on a pedestal cake plate. You can display your anyway you like. I make my pedestal cake plates with 2 inexpensive clear plates (you can
purchase these most of the time at a dollar store). (You can also use just one plate instead of stacking two). I purchased the inexpensive crystal glass
candlestick holders that you can find at most craft stores. I glue the plate or plates on the candles stick holders with 2-part epoxy glue. Make sure you use a glue for glass. I display the single slice next to the faux cake on a small cake plate with a fork. This makes a neat conversational piece and fun to fool folks and a beautiful piece for decoration
This idea came from browsing thru an antique store once and I spotted a cake similar to this one. Of course it was an antique and they wanted $40.00 for it! I sell these my cakes for $25.00 to $28.00 each.
