Free Craft Projects - Beach Tote Bag
Materials: 2 burlap pieces (color of choice) size 14 x 18 1/2 inches; 4 pieces 3 1/2 x
10 1/2 inches; 1 piece 4 1/2 x 15 inches. Material of choice for lining size 13 3/4 x 12 1/2 inches.
Felt in contrasting color; desired fish pattern; sewing machine, thread; iron on tape;
2 bamboo rod handles (long wooden dowels may be used).
Instruction:
1. Cut two interlining pieces (11 x 12 x 18 1/2 inches), one (4 1/2 x 15
inches), and one (4 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches) for the pocket.
2. Stitch the interlining to the sides and to the bottom of the bag.
3. Appliqué the felt fish assembled on iron-on tape.
4. Stitch straps (fold in half lengthwise and stitch; turn right side out).
Turn in one end; edge-stitch. Fold strap in half and stitch to bag.
5. Sew bottom to sides. Sew side seams. Sew bottom side seams. Fold down top
2-inch edge of bag and slip-stitch to interlining.
6. Line bag as follows: Turn down 1/2" hem on top edges, and turn
right side out. Slip lining over bag, wrong sides together. Slip stitch lining
to bag. Turn right side out.
7. Edge-stitch the bag, press, and slip in bamboo handles. Stitch straps just
below the handles. Place a piece of cut cardboard in bottom of bag
for stiff base shaping if desired.
