Craft Projects - Dolly and Polly

Materials for Dolly - Body: 1/4 yard unbleached muslin, or Osnaberg. Hair: 1/3 skein 4—ply yarn, OR Partial package of Home Folk "Whimsey" doll hair; Partial package of Curly Hair— "Mini—curl"— doll hair; 8" of 1/8" ribbon for hair bow. Face: #005 Brown and black pigma micron fabric markers, OR Brown and mauve embroidery floss, OR Brown and mauve acrylic paint; White acrylic paint; Pink powder blush. Dress: 1/8 yard cotton. Vest: 1/8 yard small print lightweight tapestry, Vest lining: 1/8 yard satin. Vest trim: 1/4" ribbon rosette. Slip: 1/8 yard cotton. Neck trim: Small necklace OR 5 1/2" of 1/2" lace.

Materials for Polly - Body: 1/4 yard unbleached muslin, or Osnaberg. Hair: 1/3 skein 4—ply yarn, OR Partial package of Home Folk "Whimsey" doll hair; Partial package of Curly Hair— "Mini—Curl"— doll hair. Face: #005 brown and black piqma micron fabric markers, OR Brown and mauve embroidery floss, OR Brown and mauve acrylic paint; White acrylic paint; Pink powder blush. Dress: 1/8 yard cotton. Pinafore: 1/8 yard cotton. Slip: 1/8 yard cotton. Dress trim: 17" frayed rayon cord OR 17" of 1/8" ribbon

Miscellaneous Supplies: Lead pencil, thread, poly-fil, Q-tip, and empty fine point ballpoint pen OR fine bristle paint brush.

Instructions:  

1. Please read all instructions before beginning.

2. All seam allowances are 1/8" — Cutting line is not stitching line —all seam allowances are included in pattern pieces.

3. Using a lead pencil or brown fabric marker, trace the facial features from pattern onto material. Nose may be drawn on using a pink transfer pencil.

4. Paint with an empty fine point ballpoint pen or fine bristle paint brush.

5. Embroider, draw, or paint facial features.

If embroidered, use brown satin stitch to fill in iris of eye and eyelashes. Using a black fabric marker, make a black dot in center of stitched eye, representing pupil. At left edge of pupil, add a tiny white acrylic highlight dot (Illustration #1 below). Using a single strand of mauve embroidery floss, embroider upper lip with an outline stitch, and lower lip with 2 horizontal satin stitches (Illustration #2 below).

    

If drawing, fill in iris of eye with brown fabric marker. Using a black fabric marker, make a black dot in center of eye, representing pupil. At left edge of pupil, add a tiny white acrylic highlight dot. Paint mouth with mauve acrylic paint.

If painting, fill in iris of eye with brown acrylic paint. Using a black fabric marker, make a black dot in center of eye, representing pupil. At left edge of pupil, add a tiny white acrylic highlight dot. Paint mouth with mauve acrylic paint.
