Each shell stands free from base of a chain in this doily to
produce a novel dimensional effect.
What you need: You will need 5 balls of metallic
thread in the color of your choice and a size 6 steel crochet hook to make a
doily measuring approximately 15 inches.

Pattern: Starting at center, ch 5, sl st in first ch st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: 15 sc in ring, sl st in first Sc.
Rnd 2: Sc in same st with sl st, * ch 4, sk 2 sc, Sc
in next sc, repeat from * around, end with a sl st in first sc. There are
5 lps.
Rnd 3: * (Sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sc) in
next lp, repeat from * around, end with a sl st in first sc.
Rnd 4: Sl st in back of each st to
center st of first petal, * ch 4, sl st in back of center st of next petal,
repeat from * around. End with a sl st at base of first ch.
Rnd 5: Repeat rnd 3.
Rnd 6: Sl st in back of first dc in
next petal, * ch 4, sl st in back of last dc in same petal, ch 4, sl st in back
of first dc in next petal, repeat from * around, end with ch 4, sl st in base of
first ch 4.
Rnd 7: Repeat rnd 3.
Rnd 8: Repeat rnd 6.
Rnd 9: Repeat rnd 3.
Rnds 10 through 13: Repeat rnds 4 and 3
alternately.
Rnd 14: Repeat rnd 6.
Rnd 15: Repeat rnd 3.
Rnds 16: through 25: Repeat rnds 4 and
3 alternately.
Rnd 26: * Sl st in back of first dc of
next petal, ch 4, sl st in back of last dc of same petal, (ch 4, sl st in back
of center dc of next petal) 4 times, ch 4, repeat from * around, end with a sl
st at base of first ch 4.
Rnd 27: Repeat rnd 3.
Rnd 28: Repeat rnd 4.
Rnd 29: Repeat rnd 3.
Rnd 30: Work in same manner as for rnd 26 except
increase 8 lps evenly spaced around.
Repeat rnds 27 through 30 until doily measures 15 inches in
diameter, ending with a petal rnd. Fasten off.
Wet doily, pin in true circle, spray with starch and allow to
dry before removing pins.
