Crochet Patterns - Triangles Afghan

This afghan is made up of squares in two colors in triangle pattern. Completed afghan measures 56x39 inches.

What you need: You need approximately 4 ounces each of three variegated colors (A, B and C); 8 ounces of 4th variegated color (D); 20 ounces eggshell (MC); 8 ounces brown (border) 4-ply knitting worsted yarn; size G crochet hook.

Abbreviations: ch (chain) MC (main color) dc (double crochet) rnd (round) Sl st (slip stitch) p (loop) sp (space).

Gauge: Each square measures 81/2 x 8 1/2 inches

Following directions given below make 24 squares, 9 with MC and color D, 5 with MC and color A, 5 with MC and color B, 5 with MC and color C. Sew squares together as shown in diagram.

Directions: With G hook and MC, ch 5, join to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, ch 1 (two shells made), drop MC, do not cut. With one of variegated colors, pull lp through lp on hook (color change accomplished), 3 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc, sl st to beginning of rnd, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 2: With variegated color, work 2 dc in same sp as turning ch, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next sp, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1 in next sp. Drop variegated color, do not cut. With MC left from previous rnd, ch 3 in same sp as last shell, pulling last ch through lp on hook, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1,3 dc, ch 1,3 dc in next sp, ch 1,3 dc in same sp as first shell of rnd. Ch 1, sl st to join, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 3: With MC, work 2 dc in same sp as turning ch, ch 1, 3 dc in next sp, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in corner sp, ch 1,3 dc in next sp. Ch 1, 3 dc in next sp, ch 1, drop MC. With variegated color from

Rnd 4: Starting with variegated color, work as for rnd 3, changing colors as before, except there will be one more shell between each corner.

Rnds 5 through 9: Same as rnd 4, alternating starting color. Fasten off both colors.

Border—Rnd 1: With brown, join yarn at any corner, ch 3, 2 dc in corner, * ch 1, 3 dc in side sp, repeat from * to seam, ch 1, 3 dc in seam, repeat from * to next corner, (ch 1, 3 dc) twice in corner, repeat from * three times, ending with beginning corner. Ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1 to complete beginning corner, sl st to top of ch 3 to complete rnd. Work 4 more rounds in brown following directions for rnd 1. Fasten off.

Finishing: Work in ends neatly. Block to size.
