Gingerbread boy is 15 inches tall and requires
about 180 yards light brown and small amount yellow heavy rug yarn, Susan Bates
crochet hook size I, large eye needle, and filling material.
Abbreviations: St (stitch) Sl St (slip stitch)
ch (chain) tog (together)
sc (single crochet) dec (decrease) inc (increase)
Gauge: 3 sts
equal one inch
Back—Left Leg: Beginning
at lower edge with light brown, ch 9.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each
ch to end—8 Sc.
Rows 2, 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc across, dec 1 st over
last 2 sts.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, dec 1 st over first 2 sts,
Sc across.
Rows 6 through 12: Ch 1, turn, sc across—6
sc.
Row 13: Ch 1, turn, inc 1 St in first st, Sc
across. Fasten off.
Right Leg: Same as
left leg through row 3. Work decs in rows 4 and 5 at opposite edge of work. Work
same as left leg through row 12.
On row 13, ch 1, turn, sc across, inc 1 st in
last st, do not fasten off.
Body—Joining Row 1: Ch
1, turn, sc across 7 sts of right leg, ch 3, sc across 7 sts of left leg.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc across 7 sts, sc in each
ch st, sc across 7 sts—17 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc across.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, inc 1 St each end, sc
across.
Rows 5 through 13: Ch 1, turn, sc across—19
sc.
Arms—Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc across 19 sts, ch
12 for one arm, turn.
Row 2: Sc in second ch from hook, sc in next
10 ch, Sc across 19 Sc, ch 12 for other arm, turn.
Row 3: Sc in second ch from hook, sc in next
10 ch, sc across 30 Sc.
Rows 4 through 8: Ch 1, turn, sc across—41
sc.
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, sc across 26 sts, do not
work last 15 sts.
Row 10: Ch 1, turn, sc across 11 sts for neck,
do not work last 15 sts.
Head—Row 1: Ch 1,
turn, inc 1 st each end, sc across—13 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc across.
Repeat last 2 rows twice.
Rows 7, 8: Ch 1, turn, sc across—17 sc.
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, dec 1 st each end, Sc
across.
Row 10: Ch 1, turn, sc across.
Repeat last 2 rows twice, then repeat row 9
once more. Fasten off.
Front: Same as back.
Finishing—Eyes: (Make 2.) With yellow, ch 2,
7 sc in second ch from hook, sl st in first sc. Fasten off, leaving 12-inch
length of yarn to sew eye to face.
Sew eyes to face. Embroider nose and mouth as
shown with yellow. Beginning at left underarm with wrong sides together, with
yellow, sc front and back together around outside, inserting filling before
completion, join with sl st in first Sc. Fasten off.
