Crochet Patterns - Canister Covers

Size: 1 pound canister is 7-1/2" tall. 2 and 3 pound canisters are 9" tall.

Materials:  Knitting worsted weight 4-ply yarn,  2 (3.5 ounce) skein of White (or color of choice); 2-ply chunky yarn, 1 (3 ounce) skein of Geranium (or color of choice); Aluminum crochet hook, size G; Four 12" Green pipe cleaners; 1,2 and 3 pound empty coffee cans with lids; 3 artificial grape clusters; Polyester fiberfill stuffing: Yarn needle; One 12" square green adhesive backed felt.

Gauge: 4 sc= 1" 4sc rows = 1". To save time, take time to check gauge.

1 LB. Canister Cover: With white ch 4, join with sl st to form ring.

Rnd 1: 7 sc in ring. Do not join rnds, mark beg of each rnd.

Rnd 2: 2 Sc in each sc around (14 sc).

Rnd 3: Sc in each sc around.

Rnd 4: Repeat Rnd 2 (28 sc).

Rnd 5: Repeat Rnd 3.

Rnd 6: *2 Sc in next Sc, sc in next Sc. Repeat from * around (42 sc).

Rnds 7-8: Repeat Rnd 3.

Rnd 9: Sc in back lp of each sc around.

Rnd 10: *1 sc and 1 dc in next Sc, sk next sc. Repeat from * around.

Rnd 11: Sc in each St around. Repeat Rnds 10 and 3 alternately until piece measures 5-3/4" above Rnd 9. Fasten off.

Make two pieces as follows: With geranium repeat Rnds 1-8 for cover.

Finishing: With wrong sides to inside, using geranium yarn and yarn needle, sew pieces tog halfway around. Slip plastic coffee can lid between pieces. Fill one side with polyester filling until slightly domed. Fold 1 pipe cleaner in half, twist tightly. Fold twisted piece in half. Place through center top of lid, leaving2"abóvetop edge. Spread ends to each side and tack in place. Sew remainder of lid closed. Sew one grape cluster to canister cover. Place canister cover on coffee can. Cut two 1" strips of green felt. Place around top edge of canister cover with 1 / 2" to inside. Place cover on canister.

Cover: Repeat Rnds 1-8 of One Pound Can Cover.

Rnd 9: Repeat Rnd 6 of One Pound Can Cover.

Rnd 10: Repeat Rnd 3 of One Pound Can Cover.

Rnd 11: Repeat Rnd 9 of One Pound Can Cover.

Rnd 12: Repeat Rnd 10 of One Pound Can Cover.

Rnd 13: Repeat Rnd 11 of One Pound Can Cover.

Repeat Rnds 10 and 11 of One Pound Can Cover alternately until piece measures6-3/4"aboveR’nd 11. Fasten off.

With geranium repeat Rnds 1-9 of Cover. Complete as for One Pound Canister Lid. Sew one grape cluster to side. 

Repeat Rnds 1-10 of Two Pound Can Cover.

Rnds 11-12: Repeat Rnd 3 of One Pound Can Cover (56 sc). 

Rnd 13: *2 Sc in next Sc, sc in next 4 sc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in last 5 sc (67 sc).

Rnd 14: Repeat Rnd 9 of One Pound Can Cover.

Rnd 15: Repeat Rnd 10 of One Pound Can Cover.

Rnd 16: Repeat Rnd 11 of One Pound Can Cover. Repeat Rnd 15 and 16 alternately until piece measures 7" above Rnd 14. Fasten off.

With geranium repeat instructions for Three Pound Can Cover through Rnd 10. Complete as for One Pound Can Lid. Finish top edge of canister cover with green felt as for One Pound Canister. Sew grape cluster to side.

This pattern makes a wonderful Christmas gift when done in green, red and white. Holly berry clusters instead of grapes.
