Skill Level: Easy to Intermediate
Materials: Red Heart Black, White, Tan 8 oz skeins: Red Heart Burgundy, Blue 4 oz skeins; Dazzle, Yellow 4 oz skein; Crochet Hook: Susan Bates size "K"
Abbreviations: Ch, chain; sc, single crochet; hd, half double crochet; dc, double crochet; tr, treble crochet.
Additional Abbreviations: HD: half double crochet *Yarn over hook once insert hook into st, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook. Tr2tog: Treble crochet 2 together: *Yarn over hook twice and insert hook into next st, yarn over hook and draw through 2 loops twice repeat from * once (3 loops on hook), yarn over hook and draw through all loops on hook. Tr3tog: Treble crochet 3 together. *Yarn over hook twice and insert hook into next st, (yarn over hook and draw through 2 loops) twice; repeat from * once (4 loops on hook), yarn over hook and draw through all loops on hook.
Special Note: A "db" stitch is used in the pattern below. After attempting to clarify this with the designer, unsuccessfully, a pattern tester has noted that it must be referring to a "double crochet" and is likely a misprint. However, until we can reach the designer, we cannot guarantee this is correct.
Step 2: Pattern Instructions
Pattern:
With black cast on 140 chain stitches.
Foundation Row: With Black, in 3rd chain from hook half double crochet and half double crochet in each stitch across...ending with 138 stitches, chain one and turn 138 stitches. Row 1: *sc in first st, hd in next stitch, db in next stitch, 3 tr in next stitch, db in next stitch, hd in next stitch, repeat from * across. Chain 4, turn (change to white).
Row 2: tr2tog, db in next stitch, hd in next stitch, *sc in next stitch, hd in next stitch, db. In next stitch, tr3tog, db in next stitch, hd in next stitch repeat from * until the end. Ending with tr2tog in last two stitches. 138 stitches. (change to black).
Row 3: tr2tog, db in next stitch, hd in next stitch, *sc in next stitch, hd in next stitch, db. In next stitch, tr3tog, db in next stitch, hd in next stitch repeat from * until the end. Ending with tr2tog in last two stitches. 138 stitches. (change to black).
Row 4: Hd in each chain across chain two and turn (change to burgundy).
Row 5 & 6: Hd in each chain across chain two and turn (change to black).
Row 7: Hd in each chain across chain two and turn (change to yellow).
Rows 8 & 9: Hd in each chain across chain two and turn (change to black).
Row 10: repeat row 2 with black then at end of row change to white.
Row 11: repeat row 3.
Row 12: with black repeat row 4.
Rows 13-15: with beige Hd in each chain across chain two and turn (change to black).
Row 16: with black Hd in each chain across chain two and turn (change to blue).
Row 17-18: Hd in each chain across chain two and turn (change to black).
Row 19: With black Hd in each chain across chain two and turn (change to tan).
Row 20-22: Hd in each chain across chain two and turn (change to black).
Row 23: Hd in each chain across chain two (with black).
Repeat rows 1 thru 23 until desired length. Alternating yellow and burgundy making sure that they are in same sequence at end of afghan
