Materials:
10-20 ounces of
bulky yarn. Crochet hook size ‘K’. You may use Bernat Soft
Bounce, Lion Home Spun.
Gauge:
14 sts = 4
inches; 12 rows = 4 inches. Stitch pattern is ch, sc.
Sizes:
Directions
are for Petite. Changes for Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large and Extra
Large are in parenthesis.
BACK:
Beg at lower
edge, ch 52(58-64-70-74-78). Row 1: Sc in second ch from hk, *ch 1, skip
next ch, sc in next ch*. Repeat * across. Ch 1, turn. Row 2: Sc in first
sc, sc in first ch 1, *ch 1, sc in next ch 1*. Repeat * across, end with
sc in last ch & sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 3: Sc in first sc 1, *ch 1, sc
in next ch 1* Repeat * across. End with sc in last st. Ch 1, turn. Rows
2 & 3 are pattern. Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until approximately 15
inches from beg or desired length to underarm.
Shape
Armholes: Slip
st in first three sts, pick up pattern and work to last three sts. Ch 1,
turn. Next Row: Dec one st at beg of row, work in ch 1, sc pat across;
dec one sc at end of row. Ch 1, turn. Then work even on these sts until
7(7– 7 1/2-8- 8 1/2-9) inches for armhole. End off.
FRONT:
Work same as Back until 10(11-12-13-14-14) rows less than Back.
Shape
Neck: Right: Row 1: Work in ch 1, sc pat across first
17(18-18-20-22-24) sts. Ch 1, turn. Row 2: Dec one st at beg of row,
work in ch 1, sc pattern across. Ch 1, turn. Row 3: Work in ch 1, sc pat
to last two sts, dec one st at end of row. Repeat last two rows four
rows less than Back. Work rem rows even in ch 1, sc pat. End off.
Left:
On last long row of Front, mark 17(18-18-20-22-24) sts from end
of row, attach yarn. Work to end of row in ch 1, sc pat. Ch 1
turn. Reverse shaping and work as for Right half neck opening.
Sleeves:
Ch 32(34-36-36-38-38) Work same as for Back & Front first
four rows. Inc Row: Work two sc in first st, work in pat to end, work
two sc in last st. Two sts inc-one at each end of row. Work next five
rows even in pat. Repeat these six rows until 16(18-19-19-20-20) inches
from beg (this length allows for a flip over cuff)
Shape
Cap: Row 1: Slip st in first three sts, work in pat
across to last three sts. Ch 1, turn. Repeat last row three times more.
Row 5 & 6: slip st in first 3(3-3-4-4) sts, work in pat to
last 3(3-3-4-4) sts, Ch 1, turn. End off.
Finishing:
Sew Front to
Back at Shoulders. Sew sleeves in place, easing to fit matching beg,
center and end of row to Body. Sew side and sleeve seam.
Collar:
Attach yarn at
either shoulder seam. Work in pat around neck opening, work ch 1, sc pat
around. Join with slip st to form rounds. Ch 1, turn. Keeping to ch 1, sc
pat, work collar in rounds for approximately 6 inches, or desired length.
Six inches will allow a flip over collar similar to a turtle neck.
