Free Crochet Patterns - Eleven Point Shell Doily

What you need: Here is a two color lacy bit
of decoration that may be made in cream & white or any other color
combination you might prefer. With number 20 thread and a number 9 hook, a doily
about 18 inches across will result. If number 30 thread and a number 13 hook are
used, the doily will be only about half as large.
Abbreviations: Ch
(chain); st (stitch); dc (double crochet); rnd (round); sp (space); sl st (slip
stitch); sc (single crochet).
Pattern: Begin with a ch of 10, sl st
into a ring, ch 3 and work 22 dc into ring; sl st to top of ch-3.
Rnd 2: Ch 4, dc between
dc of previous rnd, (ch 1, dc) repeated around. Counting the beginning ch as a
dc, there should be 22 dc around. sl st to beginning.
Rnd 3: Ch 5, dc in next
sp, (ch 2, dc in next sp) around and sl st to beginning.
Rnd 4: Sl st into next
sp, ch 3 to begin rnd and to count as first dc; work 3 dc to each sp, separating
the groups with 1 ch and 3 ch alternating (this makes a shell), and sl st to
beginning.
Rnd 5: Sl st to ch-1
between shells and work into it a complete shell—ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc;* ch
3, sc in next sp, ch 3, shell; repeat from * around and sl St last ch-3
to beginning; always sl st to center of shell to begin next rnd.
Rnd 6: Shell over
shell, ch 5, sc over Sc, repeated around.
Rnd 7: Same as before,
but make the chains 9 sts long and work 3 sc over ends of ch and sc of previous
rnd.
Rnd 8: Same, but ch is
11 sts long, 3 sc over 3 sc. Repeat this rnd once.
Continue in this manner,
working 5 rnds in color; the first rnd will have connecting chains of 30 sts,
then 15 ch and sc as before.
Make another group of 5 rnds
in white, increasing the connecting chains in last two rnds to 16 and 17. In the
last rnd, make picots of ch-4, sl st at all shell tips and in the sc groups.
