Crochet Patterns - Old- Fashioned Afghan

Size: Approximately 50 x 64 inches.
Individual block 7" x 7".
Tension: 4 Double = Crochet 1".
Materials: 48 oz any good quality Worsted weight yarn;
20 oz A color, 4 oz. B color, 6 oz. C color, 18 oz. D color; 1 - #7 Canadian Crochet Hook (American-G) (4.50 Metric).

Abbreviations: ch=chain, sc=single crochet, dc=double crochet, ss=slip stitch,
hdc=half double crochet, st=stitch, sts=stitches.
Instructions: With Color A
yarn, ch 6, join with a ss, ch 2, 2 dc into the center ring * ch 2, 3 dc into the center
ring, repeat from * twice, ch 2, join to top stitch of original ch 2. Break yarn and
fasten off.
Join B color yarn and starting in a corner ch 2 space, (right side of
work) fasten in yarn, ch 2, 2 dc into the space, ch 2, 3 dc into the same space * ch 2, 3
dc into the next corner space, ch 2, 3 dc into the same space. Repeat from * twice ch 2,
join to top of original ch 2. Break yarn and fasten off.
Join C color yarn, starting in a corner, ch 2, 2 dc into the corner
space, ch 2, 3~dc into the same space, * ch 2, 3 dc into the next ch 2 space, ch 2, 3 dc
into the next corner space, ch 2, 3 dc into the same space. Repeat from * around, ch 2,
join to top of original ch 2. Break yarn and fasten off.
Join D color yarn in a corner and repeat the previous row, with the exception that you
have 2 spaces to fill in with 3 dc between the corners. Join as before. Fasten off.
Join A color yarn and work I row
of sc in each st and work 3 sc in the corner sts to keep the work square. Join, ch 2 and
work 1 row half double crochet in each stitch, 3 hdc in the corner sts. Join and fasten
off.
Join D color yarn and work I row sc around block, placing 3 sc in corner sts. Fasten
off. Weave in ends.
Make 63 blocks all alike. Press lightly. Sew blocks together with Color D,
placing 7 across and 9 down. Work 1 row of sc around the entire afghan.
