Crochet Patterns - Scarves

Pink Silk Scarf: The silky thread adds to the classic charm of this pretty scarf.

Materials: 3oz of a pearl cotton or lightweight rayon; Size E crochet hook.

Gauge: Approx. 3 ch-5 spaces (in height and width) to 2" worked on size E hook

Scarf: Foundation row Ch 9, 1 sc in 9th ch from hook, turn.

1st row Ch 9, 1 sc in 3rd of 9 ch, ch 5, 1 tr in ch-9 loop, turn.

2nd row Ch 9, 1 sc in 3rd of 5 ch, ch 5, 1 sc in 3rd of 9 ch, ch 5, 1 tr in ch-9 loop, turn.

3rd row Ch 9, (1 sc in 3rd of next 5 ch, ch 5) twice, 1 sc in 3rd of 9 ch, ch 5, 1 tr in ch-9 loop, turn.

4th row Ch 9, (l sc in 3rd of next 5 ch, ch 5) 3 times, 1 sc in 3rd of 9 ch, ch 5, 1 tr in ch-9 loop, turn.

Cont. in this way, working one extra ch-5 loop on each row, until 48 rows have been worked or scarf is required size. Do not fasten off.

Edging: * Ch 18, skip 5 ch, sl st in 6th ch, in ring just formed work 12 sc, sl st in first sc to join the round, ch 4, skip 4 of the remaining 12 ch, 1 sc in next ch, ch 7, 1 sc in next ch-5 loop of 48th row. Repeat from * to the end of the row, then continue along the side of the scarf, working 2 ring tassels in each corner loop, and working in alternate loops only on the side edges of the scarf.

Tricolor Scarf: This tasseled scarf is crocheted in stripes of simple chain spaces. Worked here in a smooth yam, it would look equally attractive in a variety of textured yarns.

Size: 9" wide x 84" long, excluding fringe.

Materials: Sport yarn, 6 oz in main color A, 31/2 oz in contrasting color B, 1 3/4 oz in contrasting color C; Size I crochet hook.

Gauge: 3 sps and approx. 5 rows to 4" over pat worked on size I hook. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Note Use 2 strands of yarn throughout. When using only one skein of one color, work from the center and the outside of the skein at the same time.

Scarf: Using 2 strands of A, ch 35 and beg. pat as foll:

Base row 1 sc in 5th ch from hook, *ch 5, skip 4 ch, 1 sc in next ch, rep from * to end. Turn. 7 ch sps.

1st row Ch 4, 1 sc in first sp, *ch 5, 1 sc in next sp, rep from * to end. Turn. 7 ch sps. Last row forms pat. Cont. in pat, working in stripe sequence of 18 more rows A, 10 rows B, 10 rows C, 10 rows B, 30 rows A, 10 rows B, 10 rows C, 10 rows B and 20 rows A. Fasten off.

To finish: Weave in all loose ends. Fringe

Cut remaining A and C into lengths approx. 18" long. Using 4 strands each of A and C, knot a tassel through each ch sp on both short ends as foll:

Fold strands in half to form a loop. Insert hook in ch sp and draw loop through. Then draw ends through loop and pull tightly to secure tassel knots. Trim tassels.

Size: 72" long x 8" wide, excluding fringe

Materials: 4 oz of medium-weight glitter yarn; Size F crochet hook.

Gauge: 16dc and 9 rows to 4" worked on size F hook. To save time, take time to check gauge.

To make: Ch 43 loosely.

1st row (RS) 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each ch to end. Turn. 41 sts.

2nd row Ch 3 to count as first dc, skip first dc, 1 dc in next dc, * ch 1, skip 2 dc, (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in next dc- called V st-, skip 2 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, rep from * to last 7 dc, ch 4, skip 2 dc, l V st in next dc, ch 1, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in 3rd of first 3 ch. Turn.

3rd row Ch 3, skip first dc, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, * 7 dc in ch-3 loop of V st, ch 1, 1 dc in 2nd of next 3 dc, ch 1, rep from * to last V st. 7 dc in ch-3 loop of last V st, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in 3rd of first 3 ch. Turn.

4th row Ch 3, skip first dc, ch 3. 1 dc in next dc, * ch 1, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, skip 2 dc, 1 V st in next dc, rep from * to last 9 dc, ch 1, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, ch 3, 1 dc in 3rd of first 3 ch. Turn.

5th row Ch 3, skip first dc, 3 dc in first ch-3 loop, ch 1, 1 dc in 2nd of next 3 dc. * ch 1, 7 dc in ch-3 loop of V st, ch 1, 1 dc in 2nd of next 3 dc, rep from * to end, ending with ch 1, 3 dc in last ch-3 loop, 1 dc in 3rd of first 3 ch. Turn.

2nd-5th rows form pat.

Cont. in pat until work measures 72", ending with a 5th pat row.
