Crochet Patterns - Christening Blanket

Size: 43 1/4" x 43 1/4" including border.
Materials: 16oz of a sport yarn; Size F crochet hook; 6 yd of 1/4"-wide double-faced satin ribbon.

To make: Center square Ch 160.
Base row 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, *skip next 2 ch, 1 sc in next
ch, skip next 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, rep from * to last 6 ch, skip next 2
ch, 1 sc in next ch, skip next 2 ch, 3 dc in last ch. Turn.
1st row (RS) Ch 1, 1 sc in first dc, ch 2, leaving last loop of
each dc on hook work 3 dc in next sc, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook - called
cluster -, *ch 2, 1 sc in 3rd of next 5 dc, ch 2, cluster in next sc, rep from * to
turning ch, ch 2, 1 sc in 3 rd of ch-3. Turn.
2nd row Ch 3, 2 dc in first sc, 1 sc in next cluster, *5 dc in next
sc, 1 sc in next cluster, rep from * to last sc, 3 dc in last sc. Turn.
First and 2nd rows form pat and are repeated throughout. Work even in
pat until piece measures approx. 38" from beg, ending with a 2nd pat row. Do not turn
at end of last row, but continue working along the side for edging.
Edging
1st round Ch3, ** 1 dc in first row end, * (2 dc in next row end, 1 dc in next row
end) twice, 3 dc in next row end, 1 dc in next row end, rep from * to last 3 row ends, 2
dc in next row end, 1 dc in next row end, 2 dc in last row end, 3 dc in st at corner, 1 dc
in each of next 156 sts, 3 dc in st at corner **, rep from ** to ** once more, ending last
rep with 2 dc in base of ch-3, join with a sl st to 3rd of ch-3. Do not turn at end of
rounds. 636 sts.
2nd and 3rd rounds Ch 3, skip first st, (1 dc in each st to center dc of 3 corner
dc, 3 dc in corner dc) 4 times, 1 dc in each st to end, join with a sl st to 3rd of ch-3.
652 sts.
4th round Ch 4, skip first 2sts, *(1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip next
st) to within 3
sts of next corner st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 3 dc in corner st, 1 dc in each of next
3 sts, rep from * 3 more times, join with a sl st to 3rd of ch-4.
5th round Ch3, skip first st, * (1 dc in next ch-1 sp, 1 dc in next dc) to within 3
sts of next corner st, 3 dc in corner st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * 3 more
times, join with a sl st to 3rd of ch-3.
6th-9th rounds As 2nd and 3rd rounds. 700 sts. Fasten off.
10th round With RS facing, rejoin yarn with a sl st to a corner st, ch 3, 4 dc
in same place as sl st, *(skip next 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, skip next 2 sts, 5 dc in next
st) to within 6 sts of next corner st, skip next 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, skip next 3 sts,
5 dc in next corner st, rep from * 3 more times, omitting 5 dc at end of last rep, join
with a sl st to 3rd of ch-3. Fasten off.
To finish: Do not press. Cut ribbon into four equal lengths.
Thread a length of ribbon through the holes on the
4th round of the edging on each side of the blanket. Tie the ends of ribbon in a neat bow at each corner.
