Materials:
100% cotton thread, size 10;
Steel crochet hook, size 8 usa (1.50 mm).
Finishing Materials:
Plastic egg (3 1/4" Tall);
1 Ribbon rose;
2/3 yard (1/4" wide) ribbon;
Glue.
Finishing Size: 4 /14" T x 2 1/2" W
Gauge: 2 rows=1/2"
Egg Cover:
Rnd 1) Ch 6, (dc, ch 2) 7 times in 5th ch from hook; join with
a slip st to 3rd ch of beg ch 6: 8 dc/8spaces.
Rnds 2-3) Ch 5, dc in joining; ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2; *
(dc, ch 2, dc) in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2; repeat from * around; join
with a slip st to 3rd ch of beg ch 5: 12 dc/18 dc respectively.
Rnd 4) Ch 3; * 2 dc in next space, dc in next dc, [ch 2,
(dc, ch 2, dc) in next dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) twice] twice, ch 2, (dc, ch 2,
dc) in next dc, ch 2, * dc in next dc; repeat from * to * once; join with a slip
st to top of beg ch 3: 2 beg. crosses made.
Rnds 5-8) Ch 3; * dc in next 3 dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) 10
times, ch 2, * dc in next dc; repeat from * to * once; join with a slip st to
3rd ch of beg ch 3.
Rnd 9) Ch 3; * dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next space, dc in
next dc, dc in next space, ch 1, dc in next dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) 3 times,
dc in next dc (dec made), (ch 2, dc in next dc) 3 times, ch 1, dc in next space,
dc in next dc, 2 dc in next space; * dc in next dc; repeat from * to * once;
join with a slip st to top of beg ch 3.
Rnd 10) Ch 3, dc in next 3 dc; * ch 2, skip next 2 dc, dc in
next dc, ch 2, skip next dc and space, dc in next dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc)
twice, ch 2, dc between next 2 dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) 3 times, ch 2, skip
next dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, * dc in next 4 dc; repeat from *
to * once; join with a slip st to top of beg ch 3.
Rnd 11) Ch 3; * dc in next 3 dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) 9
times, ch 2, * dc in next dc; repeat from * to * once; join with a slip st to
top of beg ch 3.
Rnd 12) Ch 3; * skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc (dec made),
(ch 2, dc in next dc) 9 times, ch 2, * dc in next dc; repeat from * to * once;
join with a slip st to top of beg ch 3.
Rnd 13) Slip st between dc; Ch 5, dc in next dc, (ch 2, dc
in next dc) 8 times, ch 2, dc between next 2 dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) 9 times,
ch 2; join with a slip st to 3rd ch of beg ch 5.
Rnds 14-15) Ch 5; * dc in next dc, ch 2; repeat from *
around; join with a slip st to 3rd ch of beg ch 5. Do not end off after
Rnd 15.
Ruffle:
Rnd 16) Ch 12, sc in next space, ch 12, sc in next dc; * ch 12,
sc in next space, ch 12, sc in next dc; repeat from * around; join with a slip
st in first ch. Fasten off, secure ends.
Rnd 17) Join CC to any ch 12 space; Ch 1, sc in same space;
* ch 5, sc in next ch 12 space; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in
first sc. Fasten off, secure ends.
Finishing:
Insert plastic egg in the crocheted cover. Clip ribbon length in half. Weave one
half of ribbon through Rnd 14, beginning and ending at center front of egg. Pull
ends tight to close the opening of cover over the egg, tie in a bow at center
front of egg. Insert remaining ribbon through Rnd 15, just above ribbon bow, and
pull across the top of egg, and pull the other end of ribbon through opposite
side of cover, through round 15. Tie in a square knot near the end. Position the
ribbon so knot is hidden. This will be the hanging loop. Glue ribbon rose to
center front of bow.
