Crochet Patterns - Pineapple Doily with or without
Ruffle

Make this doily with or without ruffles, as desired. Note: This
pattern is for advanced crocheters.
Doily should measure 12 inches in diameter without ruffle and 18 inches with
ruffle.
Materials: Mercerized crochet cotton thread, size 30: 2 balls ecru or
color of choice for doily without ruffle and 3 balls if adding ruffle. Steel
crochet hook No. 10.
Pattern: Cut 8 strands of thread, each 1 yard long.
Starting at center, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring.
1st rnd: Working over 8 strands of thread make 24 sc in ring.
Join with sl st. Drop strands.
2nd rnd: * Ch 17, half dc in 6th ch from hook, (ch 1, skip 1
ch, dc in next ch) 4 times; ch 1, skip 1 ch, half dc in next ch, ch 1, sc
in next 3 sc. Repeat from * around. Join (8 petals).
3rd rnd: * Working over the 8 strands, make 2 sc in each of
next 6 sps, 7 sc in next sp, 2 sc in each of next 6 sps, skip 1 sc, sc in next
sc. Repeat from * around. Break off 8 strands.
4th rnd: Sl st in next 4 sc, ch 4, * skip 1 sc, dc in next sc,
(ch 2, skip 1 sc, dc in next sc) 5 times; In same place as last dc was made,
make (ch 2, dc) twice (tip): (ch 2, skip 1 sc, dc in next sc) 5 times; skip next
sc, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make tr in next sc and in
corresponding sc of next petal, thread over and draw through all loops on hook
(joint tr made). Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
5th rnd: Attach thread to first sp of the 2 sps at tip of any
petal, sc in same sp, * ch 5, sc in next sp, ch 10, skip 2 sps, make a joint d
tr by making a d tr in next sp and in corresponding sp on next petal, ch 10,
skip 2 sps on same petal, sc in next sp. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5.
d tr in first sc.
6th 7th and 8th rnds: * Ch 10, sc in next loop. Repeat from *
around, ending with ch 5, d tr in d tr.
9th rnd: Ch 3, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc,
make 2 dc in same loop, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (starting
cluster made): ch 3, 3-dc cluster in same loop (shell made): * ch 5, in next lp
make cluster, ch 7 and cluster; (ch 5, in next lp make cluster, ch 3 and
cluster) twice. Repeat from * around and join.
10th rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 3 and complete a starting
cluster, ch 3, cluster in same sp (shell made over shell), ( ch 1, skip next sp,
15 tr in next sp, ch 1, shell over next shell, ch 5, shell over next shell.
Repeat from * around and join.
11th rnd: * Shell over shell, (ch 1, tr in ext tr) 15 times:
ch 1, shell over shell, ch 5. Repeat from * around and join.
12th rnd: * Shell over shell, (ch 2, skip next tr, cluster in
next sp) 14 times: ch 2, shell over shell, ch 5. Repeat from * around and join.
13th rnd: * Shell over shell, (ch 3, skip next cluster, sc in
next sp) 13 times: ch 3, shell over shell, ch 5. Repeat from * around and join.
14th rnd: * Shell over shell, ch 4, skip next sp, cluster in
next loop, (ch 2, cluster in next lp) 11 times: ch 3, shell over shell, ch 5.
Repeat from * around and join.
15th rnd: * Shell over shell, ch 4, skip next sp, sc in next
sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 10 times: ch 4, shell over shell, ch 5. Repeat from *
around and join.
16th rnd: * Shell over shell, ch 4, skip next sp, cluster in
next loop, (ch 2, cluster in next lp) 9 times: ch 4, shell over shell, ch 5.
Repeat from * around and join.
17th rnd: * shell over shell, ch 4, skip next sp, sc in nest
sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 8 times: ch 4, shell over shell, ch 5, sc in next sp,
ch 5. Repeat from * around and join.
18th rnd: * Shell over shell, ch 4, skip next sp, cluster in
next lp, ( ch 3, cluster in next lp) 7 times: ch 3, shell over shell, (ch 5, sc
in next lp) twice: ch 5. Repeat from * around and join.
Continue in this manner, having 1 more loop on each rnd
between pineapples, making ch-6 lps on the 21st rnd and 1 ch more on each lp on
each rnd thereafter (at same time there should be 2 ch-3 lps on each pineapple
on each ch-3 rnd of pineapples) until 24 rnds have been completed (2 clusters at
tip of each pineapple on 24th rnd).
25th rnd: * Shell over shell, ch 4, skip next sp, in next sp
make sc, ch 3, and sc; ch 4, shell over shell, (ch 10, sc in next lp) 9 times:
ch 10. Repeat from * around and join.
26th rnd: * Shell over shell, ch 4, skip next sp, sc in next
lp, ch 4, cluster in sp of next shell, ch 1, sl st back into sp of previous
shell, ch 1, cluster in same sp as last cluster, (ch 10, sc in next lp) 10
times: ch 10. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, d tr in top of first
cluster.
Note: If adding ruffle to this pattern, do not break
off at end of next round.
27th rnd: * Ch 10, sc in next lp. Repeat from * around. Join
and break off. Starch lightly and press.
Ruffle:
1st rnd: Sl st to center of next lp, * ch 7, sc in next lp.
Repeat from * around and join.
2nd rnd: 9 sc in each sp around and join.
3rd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 5, skip 1 sc, sc in
next sc. Repeat from * around and join.
4th rnd: Sl st to center of next lp, sc in same lp, * ch 6, sc
in next lp. Repeat from * around and join.
5th to 11th rnds: Work as for last rnd, having 1 ch more on
each lp on each rnd (13 ch on 11th rnd).
At end of 11th rnd, join and break off. Starch lightly and
press.
