Pin Stripe Doily
This is an easy to crochet rectangle, pin stripe doily with ruffled edging.
Materials: Crochet Thread; size 30, (3) big balls of white or color of choice. Steel crochet hook No. 10. 1 Hairpin Lace staple, 1/2" wide.
Gauge: Each strip measures 1" wide, 16 inches long.
First Strip: Make a strip of hairpin lace until there are 153 loops on each side of staple. See below for Hairpin Lace Instructions
Hairpin Lace:
Step 1: Make a loop at end of ball thread (Fig. 1).
Step 2: Insert hook in loop and wind ball thread around right prong of staple (Fig 1).
Step 3: Thread over hook and draw through loop, keeping loop at center (Fig 1).
Step 4: Raise hook to a vertical position and turn staple to the left (Fig 2).
Step 5: Thread over hook and draw through loop on hook (Fig 3).
Step 6: Insert hook in loop of left prong (Fig 4).
Step 7: Thread over hook and draw loop through (2 loops on hook), thread over and draw through 2 loops.
Step 8: Repeat steps 4 to 7 until staple is filled.
Step 9: Remove all but the last 4 loops from staple and continue as before for length desired.
Make 7 more strips, joining to previous strips the same way.
Back to pattern:
1st rnd: Keeping the twist in all loops, attach thread through first 3 loops, ch 6, dc in same place, * make dc, ch 3 and dc through next 3 loops. Repeat from * across, ending with dc, ch 3 and dc through last 3 loops, ch 5, sc in center of hairpin lace, ch 5 and, working across opposite side of hairpin lace, complete to correspond with first side, ending with ch 5, sl st in 3rd ch of ch-6. Break off. Make another strip the same way.
To Join Strips: Attach thread to first ch-5 loop on second strip, sc in same place, ch 2, sl st in corresponding loop on first strip, * ch 2, sc in next loop on second strip, ch 2, sc in next loop on first strip. Repeat from * across until 53 loops have been joined. Break off.
Edging:
1st rnd: Attach thread to first ch-3 loop on last strip, sc in same place, * ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, making (sc, ch 5) 3 times in each corner. Join.
2nd rnd: Sl st in next loop, ch 4, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make 2 tr in same loop, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made); * ch 3, 3-tr cluster in next loop. Repeat from * across to corner, (in next loop make cluster, ch 3, cluster and ch 3) twice. Complete rnd, making other corners the same way. Join.
3rd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * 3 sc in next sp, sc in next cluster. Repeat from * around. Join.
4th rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 5, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across to corner, (ch 5, sc in next sc) 12 times; ** ch 5, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from ** across next side. Complete other corners and sides to correspond. Join.
5th rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, * ch 6, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join.
6th to 9th rnds: Work as for last rnd, making ch-7 loops on 6th rnd, ch-8 on 7th rnd, ch-9 on 8th rnd and ch-10 on 9th rnd. Break off at end of 9th rnd. Starch lightly and press.
