Directions are for size 12 with changes for sizes 14, 16, 18 and 20 in parentheses.

You will need: 8 (9, 9, 10, 10) two-ounce balls or skein sizes desired of sport yarn in red or color desired; 3 (3, 4, 4, 4) 50-gram balls or skein sizes desired in coordinated color; 29-inch circular needles numbers 5 and 9 or sizes needed to work to gauge; six 3/4-inch buttons; 1.3/4 yards lining material if desired.

Gauge-With number 9 needles: 5 sts equal 1 inch; 7 rows equal 1 inch

Blocking Measurements: Bust, jacket buttoned-37 (39, 41, 43, 45) inches; width of sleeves at upper arm-14 (14 1/2, 15, 15½, 16) inches; depth of raglan yoke-8 3/4 (9, 9¼, 9½, 9 3/4) inches.

Yoke: Starting at neck edge with red and number 9 needles, cast on 46 (46, 48, 48, 50) sts.

Row l-(Wrong Side): P 2 for front, p 1 and mark this st with colored thread for seam st, p 7 (6, 6, 5, 5) for sleeve, p 1 and mark seam st, p 24 (26, 28, 30, 32) for back, p 1 and mark for seam st, p 7 (6, 6, 5, 5) for sleeve, p 1 and mark for seam st, p 2 for front-there are 4 seam sts.

Row 2: Inc 1 st in first st, inc 1 st on each side of each seam st, k across, inc 1 st in last st-10 sts inc.

Row 3: P each st across.

Repeat last 2 rows 6 times more- 116 (116, 118, 118, 120) sts, ending with row 2.

Next Row: Cast on 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) sts at each edge-122 (124, 128, 130, 134) sts. Keeping front edges even, continue in stockinette (k 1 row, p 1 row) and inc 1 St each side of each seam st (8 sts inc) every k row 23 (24, 25, 26, 27) times more, ending with an inc row-306 (316, 328, 338, 350) sts, with 84 (88, 92, 96, 100) sts on back, 67 (68, 70, 71, 73) sts on each sleeve and 42 (44, 46, 48, 50) sts on each front, not including 4 seam sts.

Right Sleeve: P sts of right front and next seam st; put these 43 (45, 47, 49, 51) sts on a holder. Work 67 (68, 70, 71, 73) sts of next sleeve, sl remaining sts on another holder, turn. Cast on 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows-71 (74, 76, 79, 81) sts. Work even in stockinette st for 1 ½ inches. Dec 1 st each edge on next row and again every inch, 11 times more-47 (50, 52, 55, 57) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 13 (13½, 13½, 14, 14) inches from underarm, ending with a k row. Dec 1 (2, 2, 3, 3) sts evenly across next row½46 (48, 50, 52, 54) sts. Change to number 5 needles and coordinating yarn. K 1 row. Work in rows of k 1, p 1 ribbing for 2½ inches. Bind off in ribbing.

Left Sleeve: With wrong side facing you, p seam st, p sts of back and seam st, sl these sts onto a holder, p 67 (68, 70, 71, 73) sts of next sleeve, sl remaining seam st and sts of left front onto a holder. Complete sts on needle to correspond with right sleeve.

Body: With wrong side facing you, join yarn beyond left sleeve and p the last 43 (45, 47, 49, 51) sts of left front. Turn. K sts of front, cast on 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts, sl marker on needle, cast on 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts, k sts of back, cast on 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts, sl on another marker, cast on 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts, k sts of front½180 (192, 200, 212, 200) sts. Work these sts in stockinette st, dec 1 st each side of markers every 3 inches 3 times½168 (180, 188, 200, 208) sts. Work even until body measures 13½ (14, 14, 14½, 14½) inches from underarm, ending with a k row. Change to number 5 needles, k 1 row on wrong side for hemline, continue in stockinette st for 12 rows. Bind off loosely.

Front Borders ½ (Make 2): With coordinating color and number 5 needle, cast on 21 sts.

Row 1½(Wrong Side): P each st.

Row 2: K 10, with yarn in back, sl 1 as if to p, k 10.

Repeat these 2 rows until piece when slightly stretched will reach from hemline to front neck edge. Bind off.

Collar: With coordinating color and number 5 needle, cast on 76 (80, 82, 86, 88) sts. Work even in stockinette st for 8 rows, ending with a p row.

First Inc Row: K 6 (8, 9, 2, 3), * inc 1 st in next st, k 6 (6, 6, 8, 8), repeat from * ending with inc 1 st in next st, k 6 (8, 9, 2, 3)½10 sts inc. Making incs directly over one another, inc 10 sts every 8th row 2 more times½106 (110, 112, 116, 118) sts. Work even for 6 rows, ending with a k row. K next row on wrong side for fold line. Work in stockinette st for 6 rows, ending with a p row.

First Dec Row: K 7 (9, 10, 3, 4), * k 2 tog. k 8 (8, 8, 10, 10), repeat from * ending with k 2 tog, k 7 (9, 10, 3, 4)½10 sts dec. Making decs directly over one another, dec 10 sts every 8th row 2 more times. Work even for 6 rows. Bind off.

Pockets: (Make 2): With number 9 needle and red, cast on 24 sts. Work in stockinette st for 4 inches, ending with a p row. Change to number 5 needles and coordinating color and continue in stockinette st for 1 inch. Bind off.

Finishing: Block pieces to measurements. If lining is desired, cut pieces to correspond with back, fronts and sleeves, allowing 1½ inches for seams and two inches for pleat at center back. Sew sleeve, side and underarm seams; hem lower edge. Turning under 2 sts on sides and lower edge, face pockets with lining material and sew in place. Fold front borders in half lengthwise and sew to fronts. Make 6 machine-stitched buttonholes evenly spaced on right front. Sew bound-off edge of collar to neck, right sides together, with ends at center of borders. Turn wrong side out at ridge and sew ends; turn right side out and sew cast-on edge inside neck. Press. Taking in ½ inch of seam allowance sew armhole seams of lining, side and sleeve seams. Make pleat at center back. Press. Turning under raw edges, pin lining inside jacket. Keeping sleeve linings slightly longer than sleeves, sew lining to neck, front edges, top of hem and cuffs. Sew on buttons.
