Free Knitting Patterns - Swirl Leaf Doily

This is a round doily with an unusual swirl leaf pattern.

Material:  It measures approximately 14 3/4  inches in diameter when made from one ball of Clark’s Big Ball Mercerized Crochet, size 30, and using 5 double-pointed needles, size 15. You will also need a steel crochet hook, size 10.

Abbreviations: k (knit) tog (together) p (purl) sc (single crochet) st (stitch) ch (chain) rnd (round) sl (slip) 0 (yarn over)

Pattern: Starting at center, cast on 8 sts. Divide sts evenly on 4 needles (2 sts on each needle). Join, being careful not to twist sts.

Rnd 1: K each st.

Rnd 2 and all even rnds unless otherwise indicated: K each st.

Rnd 3: (0, k 1) 8 times (16 sts).

Rnd 5: (0, k 2) 8 times.

Rnd 7: (0, k 3) 8 times.

Rnd 9: (0, k 4) 8 times.

Rnd 11: (0, k 5) 8 times. There are 12 sts on each of four needles.

Rnd 13: (0, k 2,0, k 2 tog, k 2) 8 times.

Rnd 15: (0, k 3, 0, k 2 tog, k 2) 8 times.

Rnd 17: (0, k 2, 0, k 2 tog, 0, k 2 tog, k 2) 8 times.

Rnd 19: (0, k 3, 0, k 2 tog, 0, k 2 tog, k 2) 8 times.

Rnd 21: * 0, k 2, (0, k 2 tog) 3 times, k 2, repeat from * around.

Rnd 23: * 0, k 3, (0, k 2 tog) 3 times, k 2, repeat from * around.

Rnds 92 and 93: K each st. There are 92 sts on each of four needles.

Edging: * (Insert crochet hook through next 4 sts on needle, make a sc, ch 7, sc in 4th ch from hook— picot made, ch 3, make a sc through next 3 sts on needle, ch 7, picot, ch 3) 6 times, make a sc through next 4 sts, ch 7, picot, ch 3, repeat from * around, join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off. Starch lightly and press.
