Free Knitting Patterns - Knit Place Mats

Materials: Heavy Rug Yarn, 7—70 yd. skeins White; 2—70 yd. skeins Watermelon; 1—70 yd. skein Buttercup (this will make 4 mats). 1 Pr. Knitting Needles No. 9 or any size needles which will result in stitch gauge below.

Size: 12 x 18

Gauge: 4 sts = 1 inch.

Pattern: 

1st row: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across row. 

2nd and 3rd rows: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row.

4th row: Repeat 1st row. These 4 rows form pattern.

With Watermelon cast on 47 sts. 

1st row: K across row, drop Watermelon. 

2nd and 3rd rows: With Buttercup K across each row, cut Buttercup. 

4th and 5th rows: With Watermelon K across each row, drop Watermelon. 

6th row: With White K across. 

7th, 8th and 9th rows: Work 1st, 2nd and 3rd row of pattern, drop White. 

Next 6 rows: Repeat from the 4th to the 9th rows. 

Next 2 rows: With Watermelon K across each row. 

Next 4 rows: Repeat from the 2nd to the 5th row, cut Watermelon. 

Next row: With White K across row. 

Work in pattern until mat measures 14 1/2 inches from beg ending with 3rd row of pattern, drop White. 

Next 3 rows: With Watermelon K across each row. 

Next 4 rows: Repeat 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th rows. 

Next row: With White K across row. 

Next 3 rows: Repeat the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rows of pattern, drop White. 

Next 2 rows: With Watermelon K across each row, drop Watermelon. 

Next 6 rows: Repeat the last 6 rows. 

Next 2 rows: With Buttercup K across each row. 

Next 2 rows: With Watermelon K across each row. Bind off.
