Free Knitting Patterns - Colorful Popcorn Afghan
Materials: Knitting Worsted in 12 ounces each of
orange, luscious pink, celery leaf and turquoise (or color combination of
choice); 36-inch circular needle size
10 1/2; and aluminum crochet hook size G.
Abbreviations: k (knit)
p (purl) st (stitch) inc (increase) tog (together) lp (loop)
Measurement: About 46 by 64 inches plus fringe.
Gauge: 4 patterns to 4 1/2 inches.
Sample swatch: Cast on 14 sts; work rows 1-4.
Afghan: With orange, starting at side edge, loosely
cast on 332 sts (this is length of afghan).
Note: Do not join side edges, work back and forth s
follow:
Row 1: K 1, * ( k 1, p 1, k 1, p 1, k 1) in next st-inc of 4
sts, p next 5 tog (dec of 4 sts), repeat from * to last st, k 1.
Row 2: P each st.
Row 3: With pink, k 1, * p 5 tog, (k 1, p1, k
1, p1, k 1) in next st, repeat from * to last st, k 1.
Row 4: P each st.
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern working 2 rows
each of celery, turquoise, pink, orange, celery and turquoise.
Repeat these 16 rows 9 more times, then work 2
rows of orange. Bind off loosely.
On right side with orange, sc around afghan,
inc at corners. Join and fasten off.
Fringe: Use remaining colors as
desired, winding yarn around an 8-inch cardboard. Cut open at one end. Fold 6
strands in half and draw through first st at one short end then draw ends
through lp and tighten. Spacing evenly, knot about 25 more fringe across end.
Repeat at other side.
