This set includes bonnet, jacket, mittens and booties. Directions are given for 6-9 month size. Materials: 5 ounces American Thread Company "Dawn" Abbreviations: k (knit) 0 (yarn over) p (purl) tog
(together) Gauge: 7 sts equal 1 inch Jacket—Beginning at neckline with MC, cast on 69 sts. Work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) until yoke measures 5 inches from beginning, ending with p row. Next Row: K across and place 39 sts on length of yarn or stitch holder for front, work across next 40 sts for sleeve and leave on needle, work across next 78 sts and place on length of yarn or holder for back, work across next 40 sts for second sleeve and leave on needle, work across remaining 39 sts for other front and place on stitch holder or length of yarn. Fasten off yarn. Using 2 separate balls of yarn, join and work both sleeves at same time, casting on 2 sts at beginning and end of each sleeve in first row. Continue in stockinette stitch until sleeves measure 3 1/2 inches from separation, ending with k row. Next Row: K each st. Next 4 Rows: Repeat rows 3 through 6. Next Row: K each st. Next 7 Rows: Repeat rows 8 through 14. Next 6 Rows: Repeat rows 1 through 6. Next Row: K each st. Next Row: P each st. Next Row: K 1, * 0, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Next 3 Rows: P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row. Bind off in purling. Slip all remaining sts (156) from holders or yarn onto needle. Join MC and p across all sts, casting on 4 sts between each section for underarm (164 sts). Continue in stockinette until piece measures 8 1/2 inches from neck edge, ending on right side. Next 6 Rows: K each row. Bind off. Border: With MC and right side facing, pick up 65 sts along one front edge and k 6 rows. Bind off. Work border along other front edge in same manner. Finishing: Sew seams. Lace narrow ribbon through sleeve beading and tie with bow. Cut two 18-inch lengths of 1/2-inch ribbon. Sew a length to each corner at neck edge. Cap: With MC, cast on 81 sts. Work first 6 rows same as for jacket. Row 7: K each st. Row 8: P each st. Row 9: K each St. Fasten off MC. Next 5 Rows: Repeat rows 10 through 14 of jacket. Next 6 Rows: Repeat rows 1 through 6 of jacket. Rows 21, 22: K each st. Next Row—Start Ruffle: K into rib of st, leave st on needle, then k the st, slip st off needle (inc made), * k 1 st, inc 1 st in next st, repeat from * across row. P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row. Next 6 Rows: Repeat rows 1 through 6 of jacket. Bind off. Next Row: With wrong side of ruffle facing and downward, with MC pick up 79 sts along 21st row. Next Row: P each st. Work in stockinette for 3 inches, ending on wrong side of work and casting on 13 sts at end of last row. Next Row: K each st, casting on 13 sts at end of row. Next Row: P each st. Next Row: * K 11, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row, ending with k 1. Next Row: P each st. Next Row: * K 10, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row, ending with k 1. Next Row: P each st. Next Row: * K 9, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row, ending with k 1. Next Row: P each st. Continue in same manner always having 1 st less between dec points in each k row until there are 9 sts on needle. Cut yarn, leaving a length for sewing. Thread yarn into needle, draw through all sts, fasten firmly. Sew seam as far as cast-on sts. With MC and right side of work facing, pick up 74 sts along neck edge, working through both thicknesses at ruffle. Next Row: K each st. Next Row: K across, dec 10 sts evenly spaced, then k 4 more rows even. Bind off. Finish with ribbon ties and bows as illustrated. Bootees—With MC, cast on 41 sts. Work first 19 rows same as first 19 rows of cap. Then k 2 rows, p 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row. Next Row—Beading: K 1, * 0, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Then p 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row. Work in stockinette st on the 13 instep sts for 2 inches, ending with k row. Cut yarn, leave sts on needle. Slip the 14 sts of first holder onto free needle, join yarn, pick up 11 sts on side of instep, k 13 sts of instep, pick up 11 sts on opposite side of instep, slip last 14 sts from second holder onto free needle and k. Next 10 Rows: K across each row. Next Row: K across row, dec 4 sts evenly spaced around center of toe. Next 3 Rows: K across each row. Next Row: Dec 1 st at center of toe. Next Row: K across. Bind off, leaving a length for sewing. Sew sole and back seam. Lace narrow ribbon through beading and tie with a bow. Make a second bootee in same manner. Mittens—Cast on 41 sts. Work first 6 rows same as jacket. Then k 1 row, p 1 row. Next Row—Beading: K 1, * 0, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Then p 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row. Next Row: * K 8, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row, ending with k 1. Work in stockinette st until mitten measures 3 1/4 inches from beginning, ending with a p row. Next Row: * K 5, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row, ending with k 2. Next 3 Rows: P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row. Next Row: K 2 tog across row. Next Row: P across. Next Row: K 2 tog across row. Cut yarn, leaving a length for weaving. Thread yarn into needle, draw through all sts, fasten tightly. Weave side seam. Lace narrow ribbon through beading and tie with a bow. Make a second mitten in same manner. |
