Free Knitting Pattern - Honeycomb Blocks
Size: 50" x 58", plus fringe.
Materials: Bernat Berella "4", 6 4-oz. balls Natural (A), 5 balls Gazelle (B);
Bernat-.Aero circular
needle No. 13; Bernat-Aero crochet hook size 6:50 mm (J).
Afghan: Strips 1 and 5: With 2
strands B, cast on 20 sts.
Pattern:
Row 1 (wrong side): Knit.
Row 2: * K 1,
k 1 in row below (insert needle in hole below st on needle, bring yarn through,

st above off needle), repeat from * across.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: * K 1 in row below,
k 1,
repeat from * across. Repeat rows
1-4, 9 times more—40 rows. Cut 1 strand B; tie in 1 strand A. With A and B,
work in pat for 40 rows. Cut B. Tie in 2nd strand of A. With 2 strands A, work
in pat for 40 rows. Cut 1 strand A; tie in 1 strand B. With A and B, work in pat
for 40 rows. Cut A. Tie in 2nd strand of B. With 2 strands B, work in pat for 40
rows. Cut 1 strand B; tie in 1 strand A. With A and B, work in pat for 40 rows.
Cut B. Tie in 2nd strand of A. With 2 strands of A, work in pat for 40 rows.
Bind off.
Strips 2 and 4:
With 1 strand each of A and B, cast on 20 sts. Work in pat as for strips 1 and 5,
working 40
rows A and B, 40 rows with 2 strands of A, 40 rows A and B, 40 rows with 2 strands of B, 40 rows A and B, 40 rows
with 2 strands of A, 40 rows A and B. Bind off.
Strip 3: With 2 strands of A, cast
on 20 sts. Work in pat as for other strips, working 40 rows with 2 strands of A,
40 rows A and B, 40 rows with 2 strands of B, 40 rows A and B, 40 rows with 2
strands of A, 40 rows A and B, 40 rows with 2 strands of B. Bind off.
Finishing: Block all strips. Sew strips tog: 1,2,
3, 4, 5.
Steam seams. With 1 strand each of A and B, work 1 row sc across top and
bottom edges of afghan.
Fringe: Cut yarn in 16" lengths. Using A and B
tog, knot 4 or 5 strands in first sc, * sk
2 sc, knot a fringe in next sc, repeat from * across.
Make another row of knots 1 1/2" from first row by dividing each fringe in
half and knotting the halves tog.
