Free Knitting Pattern - Golf Club Covers

These are not difficult to make. You could make them all in the same color, lengthen the rib and work one stripe of contrast in the ribbing to mark No. 1 cover. Mark each cover with the right number of stripes.

Materials: 2 ozs. each of Wool in Blue, red, emerald and gold

A pair each of Nos. 7 (6), 8 (5) and 9(4) knitting needles

A medium sized crochet hook.

Tension: 5 1/2 sts. and 7 rows to 1 inch.

Measurements: To fit Nos. 4,3,2 and 1 clubs approx. 8 3/4 ins in length.

Note: w.r.n. = wool round needle

To Make: No. 4 Cover; With Blue and No. 8(5) needles, cast on 50 sts.

1st row: K.2, * p.2, k.2, rep. from * to end.

2nd row: K.2, * p.2, k.2, rep. from * to end. Rep. these 2 rows 5 times more, change to No. 9(4) needles and cont. until piece measures 3 ins. from beg,, ending with 2nd row. Make holes for cord.

Next row: * K.2, w.r.n., p.2 tog., rep. from * to last 2 sts., k.2. Change to No. 8 (5) needles and beg. with 2nd row, work 3 rows in rib and inc. 1 st. at end of last row. Change to No. 7 (6) needles and rice stitch.

1st row: * K.1 t.b.l.= (through back of loop), p.1, rep. from * to last st., k.1 t.b.l.

2nd row: K. These 2 rows form rice st. Cont. until piece measures 7½ ins. from beg., ending with 2nd row. **

1st row: K.1, (RS.8, k.2 tog.) 5 times.

2nd row: (k.2 tog. t.b.1., k.7) 5 times, k.1.

3rd row: K.1, (RS.6, k.2 tog.) 5 times.

4th row: (K.2 tog. t.b.l., k.5) 5 times, k.1. Cont. to shape thus until 9th row: K.1, (k.2 tog.) 5 times has been completed. Cut wool and secure rem. sts.

No. 3 cover: Work as for No. 4 but casting on 54 sts. and red wool, working from ** to **. Shape top by beg. 1st row: (RS. 9, k.2 tog.) 5 times. Cont. to shape as for No. 4 cover.

No. 2 cover: Work as for No. 4 casting on 58 sts. in emerald. Shape top thus:

1st row: (RS.8, k.2 tog.) 5 times, RS.9.

2nd row: (K. 2 tog. t.b.1., k.7) 6 times.

3rd row: (RS.6, k.2 tog.) 6 times.

4th row: (K.2 tog. t.b.l., 1 k.5) 6 times. Finish in same way.

No. I cover: As for No. 4 but cast on 62 sts. in gold. Shape top: (RS.8, k.2 tog.) 6 times, RS.3.

2nd row: K.3, (k.2 tog. t.b.1., k.7) 6 times.

3rd row: (RS.6, k.2 tog.) 6 times, RS.3.

4th row: K.3, (k.2 tog. t.b.1., k.5) 6 times. 

Continue to 8th and 9th row. 

work 8th row: (K.2 tog. t.b.1., k.1) 7 times.

9th row: (K.2 tog.) 7 times. Finish as before.

Join seams and press. Make a crochet cord and thread through holes in each cover.
