Box Stitch Pot Holder

Lady Bug Pajama Bag
Note:
Insert zipper and use
as a pajama bag or omit zipper and stuff to use as a toy.
Materials:
Coats, and Clark Red' Heart Hand-knitting yarn 4
ounces
of Tangerine #253 and 1 ounce of Coffee #365; I pair size 10-1/2 Knitting needles; 7-inch
skirt or neck zipper for pajama bag, polyester fiberfill stuffing for toy; 2 buttons for
eyes. This is an old pattern and you will have to make the necessary conversions for the
yarn type and colors. Use photo as guide. We suggest the natural lady bug colors of red
body and black spots (pom-poms) in 4 oz skeins of knitting worsted wool, ply of choice.
Gauge: 7 sts = 2" 6 rows = 1".
Note:
Work in garter st (k each row) throughout.
BACK--First Half: Starting at center with Tangerine, cast on 49 sts.
Work in garter st for 9 rows.
10th row--dec. row:
K first 2 sts tog, k to within last 2 sts, k last 2 sts tog--one st decreased at each end of
row. Work 5 rows even in garter st. Place a marker in last st of last row to
indicate placement of head.
Next 4 rows: Dec one st at both ends of next row, then work 3
rows even. Now dec one st at both ends of next row and every other row until 27 sts
remain. Bind off.
Second Half: With Coffee, pick up and k 49 sts along cast-on sts of
First Half of Back. Work next 2 rows even. Attach Tangerine and work as for First Half,
placing a marker at -same corresponding end as other marker.
Head:
With Coffee, pick up and k 28 sts between markers. Next row:
K across. Dec one st at both-ends of every row until 2 sts remain. K these 2 sts tog and
fasten off. Underside: Work same as Back, including Head.
Pompom: (Make 16): Wind
Coffee 20 times around 3 fingers. Slip from fingers and tie strands securely around
center. Cut loops at each end and trim. Sew to, Back as shown.
For Toy:
Leaving an opening at head, sew all edges of Back and
Underside together. Stuff firmly and sew up opening. Sew on buttons for eyes.
For Pajama Bag; Sew edges of Back and Underside together, leaving 7 inches free at
one side for zipper opening. Sew zipper in place. Sew on buttons for eyes.
Box Stitch Pot Holder; Size: About 8" square.
Materials: Lily cotton Yarn (1 ball, color of choice);
Knitting Needles: #3; Steel Crochet hook No. 0.
Gauge: 5 sts = 1"; 7 rows = 1 "
Pot Holder: Cast on 40 sts loosely.
Rows 1-8: * K 5, p 5, repeat from * 3 times.
Rows 9-16: * P 5, k 5, repeat from * 3 times. Repeat rows 1-16 twice, then
rows 1-8 once. Bind off loosely. Make another piece the same.
Finishing: Single crochet the two pieces together on all sides, working 3
single crochet in each corner.
Loop: At one corner, join yarn in first of 3 single crochet, chain 10, skip 1
single crochet, slip stitch in next single crochet, turn. Work 12 single crochet in loop,
join and fasten off.
