Free Knitting Patterns - Lattice Afghan Pattern
Finished size: is approximately 48" x 60".
Materials: Worsted weight yarn (57) oz. (1,620 grams, 3,825
yds); Straight knitting needles, size 8 (5.00mm) or size
needed for gauge; Crochet hook size H; Yarn needle.
Gauge: In stockinette stitch, 18 stitches and 24
rows = 4"
Pattern: This afghan is done in squares. (20 squares)
Cast on 61 sts.
Row 1: (Right Side) K4, P5, (k7, P5) 4 times, k4.
Row 2: P4, k5, (p7, k5) 4 times, p4.
Row 3: K3, p3, k1, p3, (k5, p3, k1, p3) 4 times, k3
Row 4: P3, k3, p1, p3, (p5, k3, p1, k3) 4
times, p3.
Row 5: K2, p3, (k3, p3) 9 times, k2.
Row 6: P2, k3, (p3, k3) 9 times, p2.
Row 7: K1, (p3, k5, p3, k1) 5 times.
Row 8: P1, (k3, p5, k3, p1) 5 times.
Row 9: P3, k7, (p5,k7) 4 times, p3.
Row 10: k3, p7, (k5, p7), 4 times. k3.
Row 11: P2, k9, (p3, k9) 4 times, p2.
Row 12: K2, p9, (k3, p9), 4 times, k2.
Row 13 and 14: Repeat rows 9 and 10.
Row 15 and 16: Repeat rows 7 and 8.
Row 17 and 18: Repeat rows 5 and 6.
Row 19 and 20: Repeat rows 3 and 4.
Row 21 and 22: Repeat rows 1 and 2.
Row 23: K5, p3, (k9, p3), 4 times, k5.
Row 24: P5, k3, (p9, k3), 4 times, p5.
Repeat rows 1-24 until square measures approximately
12" from cast on edge, ending by working a right side row.
Bind off all sts leaving last loop on needle.
Edging: Drop loop from needle, insert
crochet hook in loop, do not turn; work 3 sc in each corner and 48 sc evenly spaced across
each side; join with slip st to first sc, finish off.
Assembly: Afghan is
assembled by joining 5 completed squares into 4 vertical strips and then by joining
strips. Lay out squares in desired order. Join squares as follows: With right sides
together, insert yarn needle from right to left through front loop of first square and
back loop of second square. Bring the needle around and insert it from right to left
through the next loop on both squares. Continue in this manner, keeping the sewing yarn
fairly loose.
Border: With right side
facing, join yarn with slip st in any corner; ch 1, sc evenly around Afghan working 3 sc
in each corner; join with slip st to first sc, finish off.
