Knitting Patterns - Girls Snow Suit
Size: 2 Years
Materials: Knitting Worsted 4 skeins for coat, 2 1/2 skeins for
leggings and 1/2 skein for hat; 14 inch double pointed knitting needles, 2 pairs
size 5, 1 pair size 3 (for leggings only); crochet hook size 3.
Gauge: 11 sts = 2 inches; 7 rows = 1 inch.
Coat: Entire coat is worked with size 5 needles.
Measurements: Width of back at underarm 12 1/2 inches-of each front 10
inches, including 5 inches overlap. Finished length form lower edge to back of
neck 17 inches. Sleeves - width 10 inches.
Sleeves: Cast on 42 sts. Work ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 2 1/2 inches.
Inc. 1 st each side in last row (44) sts. Change to stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row). Inc. 1 st each side every
1 in. 5 times (54 sts). Work even until 6 ins, above ribbing, end on right side.
Bind off 1 st at beginning of next row (53 sts). Slip to holder.
Back: Cast on 106 sts. K 1 row, p 1 row for 5 ins. Dec.
1 st each side of next row. Repeat dec. every 2 ins, twice (100 sts). Work even until 11 ins, from beginning, end on
wrong side. Bind off 1 st at beginning of next 2 rows for underarm. Slip 98 sts to holder.
Left Front: Cast on 59 sts.
First
row—K 51 sts, work p 1, k 1 ribbing on last 8 sts. 2nd row—P 1, k 1 on first
8 sts, p to end. Repeat these 2 rows until 5 ins. from beginning, end on wrong
side. Dec. 1 st at underarm edge (beginning of k rows), finish row. Repeat dec.
every 2 ins., twice (56 sts). Work until 10 ins, from beginning, end on wrong
side.
Buttonhole row—K 31, bind off 3 sts for first buttonhole, k until 14 sts
from bind-off, p 1, k 1, bind off 3 sts, finish row. Cast on 3 sts over the 3
bound-off sts of each buttonhole on next row. Work even until 11 ins, from
beginning, end on wrong side. Bind off 1 st at beginning of next row for
underarm (55 sts). Work 1 row even. Slip to holder.
Right Front: Cast on 59 sts. Work to correspond to left
front beginning first row with ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 8 sts, k to end. Shape
underarm edge at end of k rows. Work until 11 ins, from beginning omitting
buttonholes, end on right side. Bind off 1 st at beginning of next row for
underarm, end at front edge.
Join for Raglan Top as follows: Take
up sts of right front. Work k 1, p 1 ribbing on 8 sts, k 47 sts, k 53 sts of one
sleeve to same needle; to 2nd needle k the 98 sts of back; to 3rd needle, k 53
sleeve sts, then k 47 sts of left front to same needle, p 1, k 1, on the last 8
sts. Next row, work ribbing on the first 8 sts, p all sts to within 8 sts of
end, work ribbing on last 8 sts (314 sts).
Raglan dec.—First row—Work 53 sts, k 2 tog
(right front), mark space before next st for center of first raglan seam, slip,
k and pass, k 49, k 2 tog (right sleeve), mark space before next st for 2nd
raglan seam; slip, k and pass, k 94, k 2 tog (back), mark space before next st
for 3rd raglan seam; slip, k and pass, k 49, k 2 tog (left sleeve), mark space
before next st for 4th raglan seam; slip, k and pass, finish row (left front
edge); 8 sts decreased; 306 sts.
2nd row—Work ribbing for 8 sts, p to within 8
sts of end, work ribbing to end.
3rd row * Work to
within 2 sts of marker, k 2 tog, slip, k and pass; repeat from *
3 times, finish row (298 sts).
4th row—Same as 2nd
row. Repeat last 2 rows 6 times (250 sts).
17th row— Work as for 3rd row,
decreasing at each side of first and 2nd raglan seam marker; then k 23, bind off
32 sts for center pleat, k until there are 23 sts from bind-off, k 2 tog, slip,
k and pass, k 33, k 2 tog, slip, k and pass, k 20, bind off 3 sts for
buttonhole, k until there are 14 sts from bind-off, p 1, k 1, bind off 3 sts,
finish row.
18th row—Cast on 3 sts over the 3 bound-off sts for each
buttonhole. Work to center of back, cast on 1 st, finish row (211 sts).
Ribbed Yoke—Work ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 44
sts, k 2
tog, slip, k and pass, p 1, k 1 for 31 sts, k 2 tog, slip, k and pass, p 1, k 1
for 45 sts, k 2 tog, slip, k and pass, p 1, k 1 for 31 sts, k 2 tog, slip, k and
pass, p 1, k 1 to end of row (203 sts).
2nd row—Work even in ribbing, purling
the 2 seam sts of each raglan seam.
3rd row—Work ribbing, decreasing as before
on each side of the 4 raglan seams. Repeat last 2 rows 10 times (115 sts). Work
1 row same as 2nd row. Next row—Work same as 3rd row to within 25 sts of end,
bind off 3 sts for buttonhole, work until there are 16 sts from bind-off, bind
off 3 sts, finish row. Cast on 3 sts over the 3 bound-off sts of
each buttonhole in next row. Repeat 3rd row once more (99 sts). Bind off in
ribbing.
Collar: Cast on 15 sts. First row—K 1,
*
p 1, k 1; repeat from * to
end. Continue ribbing, casting on 6 sts at beginning of next 6 rows; 8 sts at
beginning of the following 2 rows (67 sts). Work 2 ins, even. Bind off loosely
in ribbing.
Belt: Cast on 11 sts. Work ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 6 ins.
Make 2 pieces. Steam, stretching to 7 1/2 ins, pulling out center at 1 end to
make point.
Finishing: Sew seams. Sew belt to underarm seam 1 in.
below underarm. Working from right side, work 1 row sc across back of neck,
holding in to 3 ins. Sew shaped edge of collar to neck leaving 14 sts free on
each front at neck edge. Fold the bound-off sts at center back into an
inverted pleat; sew to lower edge of yoke with a weaving st. Sew pleat at belt
level for 1 in. Turn up 1 in. hem; sew on wrong side. Fold pleat and baste
evenly down to lower edge. Working from right side, work 1 row of slip at on
free edge of neck and on front edges; also at 2 short sides of collar having
the inside of collar as the right side. Fasten off. Finish buttonholes. Block. Turn back cuff, sew on 2 buttons. Lap end of belt 4
ins., sew 1 button at each end through both thicknesses.
Leggings:
Measurements:
Length of front from top of waistline to crotch 10 1/2 ins., to lower edge 23
ins.
Gusset: With size 5 needles, cast on 17
sts. Work
stockinette st for 3 ins. Bind off.
Right Half: With size 5 needles, cast on 68
sts.
Work k 1, p 1 ribbing for 4 rows.
Beading (right side)—K 1, *
y o, k 2 tog, p 1, k 1; repeat
from *, end y o, k 2 tog, p
1. Continue ribbing until 2 1/2 ins, from beginning, end on wrong
side.
First short row—K 8; turn, slip 1 st, p 7 to back edge.
3rd row—K 16;
turn, slip 1, p to end.
5th row —K 24; turn, slip 1, p to end. Continue to work 8 sts more
every k row until 40 sts, end with p row.
Next row—K all 68 sts. Work
stockinette st, until 17 ins, from ribbing on front edge, end with p row.
Change to size 3 needles.
Dec. row—K 4, * k 2 tog, k 1; repeat from
* 19
times, k to end (48 sts). Work ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 3 1/2 ins. Bind off in
ribbing.
Left Half: Work ribbing as for right half. Next row
(right side) K all sts. Fist short row: P 8; turn, slip 1, k to end. Continue to
work short rows to correspond to right half, purling 8 sts more every 2nd row.
Finish as for right half.
Finishing: Sew leg seam of each half, until 11 1/2 ins.
from lower edge. Fold gusset into a triangle, sew edges of gusset to next 3 ins,
of front and back respectively. Sew longer edges of right and left half together
for center back, and shorter edges for center front. Block.
Cord—With 2 strands of yarn, make a 40 in.
ch.
Hat: Size 1 to 2 Years
With size 5 needles, cast on 91 sts for lower edge. Work p 1, k 1 ribbing for
6 rows.
Diagonal pattern—First row (wrong side)—Purl.
2nd row—K 8, * inc. 1 st in
next st, k 8, k 2 tog twice, k 8, inc. 1 st in next st, k 4; repeat from * twice, end last repeat k 9
(91 sts).
3rd row—Purl.
4th row—K 8, * inc. 1
st in next st, k 8, k 2 tog, slip, k and pass, k 8, inc. 1 st in next st, k 4; repeat from * twice,
end last repeat k 9. Repeat last 2 rows until 5 1/2 ins, from beginning, measuring
on straight part at back, end on right side.
First dec. row: * P 2 tog, p 2;
repeat from *, end last
repeat p 5 (69 sts).
Top Ribbing—First row (right
side); * P 2, k 1; repeat form * to end. 2nd row: * P 1, k 2; repeat from * to
end. Repeat these 2 rows once.
2nd dec row: (right side) * P 2 tog, k 1, repeat from *
to end (46 sts). Work p 1, k 1 ribbing for 4 rows.
3rd dec row: (wrong side) * P 2 tog across row (23
sts). Next row: * k 2 tog 11 times, k 1 (12 sts). P 1 row.
Next row: K 2 tog 6 times. P 1 row. Break yarn, run end
through 6 sts on needle, slip off and draw up tightly. Fasten off. Sew seam for
center back.
Chin Strap: Cast on 7 sts. Work p 1, k 1 ribbing for 5
inches (stretch slightly when measuring). Bind off in ribbing. Do not break
yarn. With crochet hook, ch 1; turn, skip 1 st, 1 sc in next bound off stitch,
ch 4 for button loop, skip 3, 1 sc in next st, 1 slip st in corner st. Fasten
off. Sew cast-on end of strap to 5 sts at center of point on right side of
helmet. Steam.
