Valentine Potholders

Materials (for 2 potholders): 1/3 yard of red corduroy; 1/4 yard red
print cotton; 1/4 yard red solid cotton; 1/3 yard very heavy Pellon or padding;
two 6" pieces double-fold bias tape; red thread; scissors; pencil; paper
for pattern.
Directions:
1. Enlarge and trace heart designs below onto paper; cut out.
2. Cut two hearts size 4 from the pellon or padding. Cut two solid red cotton
hearts size 2; two print hearts size 3; four corduroy hearts size 4.
3. Appliqué size 2 heart onto size 3 heart. Appliqué this onto a
corduroy heart.
4. Place the padding on the wrong side of appliquéd hearts and stitch
straight stitches 1/4" from edges.
5. Stitch 6" piece of double fold bias tape lengthwise fold in half and
stitch ends together for form loop.
6. Place loop on right side of top center of corduroy heart, stitched ends up
and overhanging 1/2" from edges, leaving opening on one side edge for
turning.
7. Turn right side out; slipstitch closed.
8. Quilt potholders by stitching one row of straight stitches along the outer
edge of the appliquéd hearts.
