Lingerie Bag
Sizes: Three
cases: 13" x 16"; 11 1/4" x 13"; 9" x 10".
Equipment:
Pencil. Tape measure. Scissors. Sewing needle. Sewing machine.
Materials: Printed
fabric with some sort of a linear design, 44" wide, 3/4 yd.
Color-coordinated lightweight lining fabric, 44" wide, 1 yd. Polka-dotted
fabric to match lining, 44" wide, 1 1/4 yds. Sewing thread to match
fabrics. Satin ribbon, 3/4" wide, 9 yds. White embroidered eyelet beading,
1" wide, 5 1/4 yds. One layer of polyester batting, 30" x 40".
Directions: Note:
All cases are made with a single pocket in polka-dotted fabric to match lining.
Large case: Cut one piece of printed
and one piece of polka-dotted fabric, each 26 3/4" x 17". For pocket,
cut one piece of polka-dotted fabric and lining fabric, each 11 3/4" x
17". Cut a piece of batting 25 1/4" x 15 1/2".
Press 1/2" to wrong side all around both
fabrics for case. With batting centered between them, pin and baste printed and
dotted fabrics together, wrong sides facing and edges even. Following linear
design of printed fabric, machine-stitch along lines to quilt, starting and
stopping 5/8" from all edges.
With right sides together, machine-stitch
dotted fabric for pocket to lining along one long edge; turn right sides out;
press. Stitch together around three remaining sides, 1/2" from raw edges;
turn seam allowances to lining side; press. Pin lining side of pocket to
polka-dotted side of case at one end with three edges even and finished edge of
pocket at center of case. Tuck 1/2" seam allowances of pocket between
dotted and printed edges of case; baste through all four layers. Topstitch
through all thicknesses.
For trimming, cut 74" lengths of satin
ribbon and eyelet beading; thread ribbon through eyelets. Pin ribbon-beaded
trimming around printed side of case, 1 1/4" in from edges, mitering
corners and turning cut ends under. Blindstitch beading to case along both
edges, catching only the printed fabric in stitching.
For ties, cut two 31" lengths of ribbon.
Fold cut end of one to wrong side; with right side out, make a double loop,
taking up 1 1/4", then 1". Tack together at side edges, then stitch to
flap at center of edge. Repeat with second length of ribbon; stitch to center of
bottom edge. Tie a bow. (see photo above).
Medium-Size Case: Cut one piece of
printed and one piece of polka-dotted fabric, each 23 1/2" x 14". For
pocket, cut one piece each of polka-dotted fabric and lining fabric, each
10" x 14". Cut batting 22" x 12 1/2". Make case in same
manner as larger case.
For trimming, cut 65" lengths of ribbon
and eyelet beading. Apply to case 1" from edges. For ties, use 20"
lengths of ribbon.
Small Case: Cut one piece of printed
and one piece of polka-dotted fabric, each 19" x 11". For pocket, cut
a piece of polka-dotted and a piece of lining fabric, each 8 1/2" x
11". Cut batting l7 1/2" x 9 1/2".
Make small case with pocket in same manner as
large case. For trimming, cut 50" lengths of ribbon and eyelet beading;
apply to case 1/4" from edges. For ties, use 18" lengths of ribbon.
