Victorian Craft Projects - Victorian Lingerie Cases

This would make a lovely gift for a bridal shower.
Sizes: Directions are for small size, 7 1/2" x 11". Changes
for medium (7 1/2" x 14 3/4") and large sizes (10" x 16")
are in parentheses.
Equipment: Pencil, ruler, scissors, tape measure, straight pins,
sewing needle and sewing machine.
Materials; For Set Of 3: Printed voile fabric 45" wide, 3/8
yard. Off-white organdy 44" wide, 1 yard. Ecru ruffled lace trim 1
1/4" wide, 3 7/8 yards. Matching thread.
Directions: Cut pieces from voile as follows: 7 3/4" x 11
1/2" ( 8" x 15 1/4"), (10 1/2" x 16 1/2"). Cut ruffled
lace trim as follows: 37 1/2" (45 1/2", 53 1/4"). With right
sides facing and raw edges even stitch ruffled lace trim to appropriate piece of
voile, starting and ending in center of one long side and easing trim at
corners. Turn under short raw ends of lace at beginning and end, and slip-stitch
together.
Cut the following pieces from organdy: 7 3/4" x 20 1/2" (18 x 28
1/2", 10 1/2" x 31"). Turn pieces right side up placing short
edges at top and bottom. Fold pieces 9 1/2" ( 13 1/2", 15 1/2")
up from bottom edge, right sides together, and press. Fold same pieces back down
5" ( 7", 8"), overlapping bottom fold 1/2"; press. Machine
baste 1/4" from each side edge to secure pocket. With right sides facing
and lace in between, pin organdy to voile. Stitch together 1/4" from raw
edges all around, leaving 2" opening at one edge. Turn to right side
through opening. Turn raw edges to inside; slip-stitch closed.
To make additional pockets for small case, cut two 7 3/4" x 18 1/2"
pieces from organdy. Fold one piece in half cross wise. Machine-stitch across
top 1/4" from raw edge to form circle of fabric. Refold circle so sea is
centered between each side and press. fold piece in half again crosswise with
seam on outer side of fold. Machine stitch up one side through all four layers.
Machine stitch on opposite side, leaving opening for turning. Turn to right side
through opening; fold raw edges to inside. Slip-stitch opening closed. Place
pocket made over pocket on main piece, with open end facing center of piece.
Stitch pockets together across top edge. Repeat for other pocket, stitching top
edge to pocket just made.
