Victorian Craft Projects - Muslin Sachets
Materials: Muslin fabric; satin ribbon; cinnamon sticks; potpourri; floral pattern below. Acrylic Paint Colors: Clover; thicket; maple syrup; rose chiffon; raspberry sherbet; fresh foliage; wicker white; harvest gold. Instructions: 1. Cut muslin fabric to 5 1/2" x 13 1/2". fold in half lengthwise. 2. Paint design on front (see painting instructions below pattern). Let dry completely. 3. Hem the 5 1/2" edges. Fold in half, right sides together, and stitch a 5/8" seam. Turn right side out. 4. Measure 2" from one end and stitch, forming a bag. 5. Place an 8" cinnamon stick in bag and fill with potpourri. Stitch 2" from end to close. 6. Tie ribbon in a bow around ends, covering stitch lines.
Painting Instruction: 1. Trace pattern above. Tape onto smooth cardboard. Cover with plastic wrap. Pin fabric over pattern. You should be able to see pattern through fabric. 2. Paint leaves first. Load fabric brush with clover tipped in fresh foliage. Pull strokes from edges toward base of leaves. 3. Paint flowers in the same manner. Load brush with rose chiffon and tip in wicker white. Center is dabbed on with harvest gold shaded with maple syrup. Highlight with wicker white. dab on center with harvest gold shaded with maple syrup. Highlight with wicker white. 4. All line work is done with thicket on leaves and raspberry sherbet on flowers. |
