Directions: Enlarge the patterns (Click here for Patterns) and cut the pieces from folded fabric: cut the back and front of the outer bells from blue fabric, the center bell from yellow, and the bow front and streamers from red polka dot fabric. Cut trims, including 1/2-inch stripes, from felt, as shown in the photograph above. Stitch along the seam line on the lower edge of the bow front. Turn under the seam allowance, clipping wherever necessary to make it lie flat. Press. Top-stitch the lower edge of the bow front to the top of the outer bell front, matching the seam lines. Press again and set aside. Sew together 2 sets of bow streamers, right sides facing, leaving an opening between dots, as shown on the pattern. Clip curves, turn, and press. Stuff lightly. With the raw edges even, pin the streamers to the outer edges of the bow front just above the lower seam line. Baste in place. Fuse or glue felt stripes along the lower edges of the bells, 1/2 inch above the seam line. Outline the long edges with machine stitching, using matching thread. Fuse and stitch the clappers and curved trim at the top of the center bell, with the curved edges on the seam line. Set aside the yellow center bell. With right sides together and streamers tucked inside, sew together the front and back of the outer bells, leaving the seam open between dots. Clip curves, turn, and stuff lightly. Slip-stitch the opening closed. Outline the bow knot with a running stitch either on the machine or by hand, as shown on the pattern. With right sides together, stitch the front of the center bell to the back. Leave an opening for turning. Clip curves, turn right side out, and stuff lightly. Slip-stitch the opening closed. Hand-stitch the center bell in place on top of the double bells. For a hanger, sew a plastic ring to the back of the bow. |
