Christmas Craft Projects - Napkin Wrappings

What you need: Tape measure; scissors; straight pins; sewing needle;
sewing machine (for straight and zigzag stitch)
Material: Cotton fabric; 3/4 yd. 45" wide
for two napkins 22" square or 1/2 yd. 36" wide for two napkins 17
1/2" square. Sewing thread for fabric and trims. Trims: 7/8" wide
grosgrain ribbon, 3 1/3 yds.; 1 package each of jumbo and regular rickrack;
ruffle trim, 2 2/3 yds.
Directions: Cut 45" wide fabric into two 22 1/2" squares; cut 36" wide
fabric into two 18" squares.
Solid Green Napkin: Set machine for close zigzag
and stitch around napkin 1/4" in from raw edge, using white thread. Cut
away fabric close to stitching. Baste ribbon (shocking pink with white polka
dots) 5/8" in from zigzag edge, mitering corners by folding ribbon (not
cutting). Stitch down along both edges of ribbon and diagonally on mitered
corners with shocking pink thread. Use same ribbon to tie bow around
"package".
Green Print Napkin: Round off corners by placing
jar lid at corners and marking around curves; cut away corners. Zigzag stitch
along edges of fabric as for napkin above. Stitch jumbo red rickrack around edge
on right side of fabric with red thread.
Solid Red Napkin: Fold raw edge under twice to
make narrow hem. Press. Stitch regular white rickrack around edge on wrong side
of fabric, with red thread, so that points of rickrack extend beyond edges of
napkin.
Red Pin Dot Napkin: Make as for solid red
napkin, stitching edge of white ruffled trim to edge of wrong side of fabric
with red thread.
