Christmas Craft Projects - Beaded Christmas Tree

Size: 10" tall. Equipment: Wire cutters. Jeweler’s pliers. Ruler. Scissors.

Materials: Beads: 6mm transparent emerald green (faceted), about 600; larger green, about 15; multicolored E beads (like seed beads, but larger), about 150; 15mm rhinestone star, one; plastic snowflakes, about five. Assorted beads as desired to fill in (pearls, crystal, seed, pearl drop, rhinestone).

Wire: Green covered stem, 16 gauge, one piece 10" long; silver colored, 32 gauge, one spool; green colored, 26 gauge, one spool. Small plastic flowerpot, 2 1/2" high, 2" in diameter. Spackle or plaster to fill pot. Decorative foil to cover pot. One piece each of lightweight cardboard and felt, approximately 2" x 2". Glue.

Directions:

1. Using bottom of flowerpot as a pattern, cut a circle from cardboard and felt; glue cardboard to base of pot; glue felt over it.

2. Prepare spackle or plaster according to package directions; pour mixture into flowerpot. Before spackle hardens, insert the 10" piece of stem wire into center of pot. Place large pale green beads around stem wire on top of plaster; allow to harden.

3. From green colored wire, cut approximately 15 pieces of each of the following lengths: 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2", 3", 3 1/2".

4. To form bottom branches, start at base of tree. Twist ends of the 15 longest pieces of green-colored wire around stem wire, spacing around stem. String emerald green beads onto each wire; leave about 1/4" of wire at end; twist into a loop to prevent beads from falling off. Use the 15 next longest pieces of green wire for next row of branches. Use graduated shorter lengths as you work around stem to the top, to give tree shape. Bead each wire after it has been attached to tree; twist each end into a loop.

5. For decorations, cut pieces of silver-colored wire about 2" long. String multicolored beads as desired, leaving short ends of wire; twist into a circle; twist ends to branches at random on tree. String other beads separately onto small pieces of wire and attach to tree, arranging as desired. Attach rhinestone star to top of tree, using small piece of wire. Cover flowerpot with decorative foil; glue
