Christmas Craft Project - Wheat Tree
What you need: Dried wheat, barley or rye heads; green fabric dye; 3" florists picks; 18" plastic foam cone; wood pedestal; hot glue stick and gun; red velvet balls and tiny red birds or decorations of your choice. 1. You must first obtain the wheat, barley or rye heads and dry them out. Cut the heads before they mature and dry them in the shade. 2. Dip them in a hot solution of bright green fabric dye ( follow package directions for making dye solution). Allow to dry. 3. When heads are dry, wire 4 or 5 together on a 3" florists pick (available at craft supply stores). You will need about 75 clusters for the table tree. 4. Space them uniformly over the 18" cone. 5. Glue the cone to a pedestal you create from a table leg, banister, or wooden candle holder. 6. Decorate with holiday miniatures of your choice or the red velvet balls and red birds shown in photo above. All are available at your local craft supply store. |
