Christmas Craft Project -Necktie Stocking

Materials: 1 yd. red satin backing/lining fabric pieces from 12 old ties, or similar fabric scraps; 1/2 yd. quilt batting; 2 yds. cording; red pearl cotton embroidery thread; 1/2 yd. muslin; 2 yds. cording.

1. Enlarge the pattern below and transfer to brown paper. Cut the following pattern pieces: 1 muslin, 3 satin fabric (1 for back, 2 for lining), and 2 from batting.

2. Cut tie fabric to match strips and heel and toe sections indicated on pattern, adding 1/2"-seam allowances.

3. Baste batting to muslin backing. Baste first tie strip to stocking top, batting side up. To add strips, pin next section along bottom seam line, right sides facing; stitch along seam line. Fold strip toward stocking bottom. Complete strips through toe. Add heel section, folding under seam allowances; slip-stitch in place. Using red thread, edge seams with feather stitching.

4. Cut and place bias strips of red satin lining fabric to cover cording. Pin to stocking along side and bottom seam line; baste.

5. Baste second batting piece to wrong side of satin backing. With right sides facing, sew stocking back to front. Trim and clip seams, turn and press. Stitch cording around stocking's top seam line.

6. Stitch liner pieces together. Slip lining into stocking. Turn under raw edges; whip-stitch lining to stocking top along cording line. Add ribbon bow and loop for hanging.
